Watched this on the news last night, was more impressed by the chap playing the fruit machine who seemed to not bat an eyelid that an armed robber was in the place! guess it must be an almost everyday occurance.

Great guy, who also made a great quote

"..... Put a move on him, got his leg wrapped, it around his head... and basically... when you have got him in a move like that - they aint getting out of it "

Fantastic.

Top marks.

What a hero! Wouldn't want to mess with him.

Was the gun found to be loaded?

That robber really picked the wrong time to do that place. What is hillarious is the hero is HUGE, but they guy on the fruity looked even bigger! That robber must have just thought what are the odds!!

His line about leg over the head was classic. I understand the hero then broke his arm the next day playing rugby!

yikes Absolute respect to the guy. He's a fking monster of a man, though, isn't he? I'd want a bigger gun than that if I was going to take him on!

Found to be a fake, according to another news report.

Aparently someone this morning chucked a brick at his window, wrapped in the local newspaper.

Fortunately it just bounced off the glass.

It was the fourth time the robber had hit the place.

The chap on the fruit machine doesn't look like he could move like the 18stones tank. Love the tanks attitude, he is not fussed at the accolades or the robbery, he looks like he wants to get back into the betting shop and on with his lifebiggrin

Lesson to be learnt: if you're going to hit a bookies, bring an elephant gun.

I'm obviously in the minority here but I think the chap is an idiot. It's one thing taking on someone with a knife or stick, but regardless of the size difference it would not have taken much for the robber to have shot him dead.

If he knew the handgun was a fake/toy or whatever then fair play to him but why even risk it?

Thats why he's receiving the accolades - because most of us wouldn't have done what he did. Its called bravery.

The judge awarded him £250 for his bravery.

A man fights off an armed robber protecting other members of the public and without thought to his personal safety....

He deserves a medal.

I do often wonder about these situations and how often the guns used are real. I always think that in the majority they're probably fake, simply because if you're so desperate for cash you're sticking up Bookies and convenience stores you're hardly likely to have a gun worth a few hundred quid.
