Horses for courses. If you want an ST get an ST.

If you want something that can achieve slightly better than 12mpg, consider this.

Or a Ka, for 1/4 of the price and most likely a better car in every single way possible, along with some other ways no one has thought of yet.

And how can you drive a 4 wheeler on a motorbike licence?

It would definately make me nervous if when looking at a new car I was offered that much breakdown cover...

Aixam has some very unique features that sets it apart from a Ford Ka. They do not appeal to many people, because they are slow and small.

But they are the only modern cars that you can drive on a motorcycle licence, which for a small number of people (think: old duffers that are not really up to passing a modern car test) they offer a unique prospect: safe local transportation with unbelievably low running costs. With a 500cc diesel engine, you can probably imagine they only need a sniff of fuel to go a long way.

I applaud diversity in the car market. A Focus ST is a Focus ST. It's of no interest whatsoever to someone interested in an Aixam.

Okay - in defense of the Aixiam it does make sense in quite a few ways under some limited conditions.

It is designed as a "City" Car and its classified as a quadricycle.

Depending on the city, it offers quite a few advantages over a "regular" car :

No Need for a full car licence
Free Parking anywhere motorcycles can park.
Some Congestion charges exempt.
Some cities allow motorcycles to park on pavements ( amsterdam for example )

It makes almost no sense in London - you need a full motorcycle license, you need an MOT, and its not exempt from the congestion charge, so its completely pointless.

I have seen a few on my travels to european citys, and I do kind of get why they make sense as a new type of inner city reduced cost motoring.

A gee-wiz is a quadricycle and not a car.

Just means it is that st it can't get to car level protection (NCAP) so it doesn't get tested as a car....

Maybe so, but I'm sure you would have spend a lot of time and effort disputing the parking tickets you would inevitably get from the local council parking Gestapo.

...and any bikers that found you had nicked the last four spaces with your "car".

I'm sure it would take a more "bike" amount of space if it were lifted onto it's side scratchchin

Probably one of the most unreliable pieces of junk on the road. The only up side is that they weigh next to nothing so easy to push out of the road when the god awful 2 cylinder engine expires again.

I asw one of these in Dymchurch the other day. What made me laugh is there is a GTR version that upgrades the 15bhp to 20bhp. It does only weigh 380kg though and has bucket seats.

It was quite a novelty to be honest. I think it could be quite good fun trying to get it on 2 wheels in a car park.
