Trade in my 207 gti for a BMW Z4 what would the finance set up be? The pugs the 1st car I've had on finance so I dont know how it works. If I saw a Z4 for lets say 10k and I got 7k part ex for the pug would the difference just be added on to what I still owe for the pug?

You do not own the car until the finance is cleared. I would guess any dealer would want the finance clearing before taking the p/x. I can't see them clearing the finance themselves, even if this is legal??

The part exchange is two separate deals.

1, the dealer buys your car off you for a set value. This should clear the finance. Any left over will go to the deposit on the BMW
2. The dealer then arranges finance for the BMW. This will be a new finance agreement.

if the finance owing on your current car is greater than they offer you, this will be added to the finance of the BMW.

Is it not easier to sell the Pug privately then get a bank loan for the Z4?

while the fist part of your stament is correct, any car salesman worth his salt would help "sort" the finance out with you, of course more money in there pocket (higher loan amount = more commission)I've ushally p/xed cars that have money owing and I have never come across a dealer that said go away that can't be done, unless they didnt want the px of course.

it's not easier to sell the pug privately, but it would be the smart money way.

the easiest way is to rock up and let them sort it all for you , but you WILL get less money for the Pug and you WILLNOT get bank rates on the finance.

Thanks for the info. I'm just toying with the idea at the mo. Seen a couple of z4's around the 10k mark, unless anyone can offer up some alternatives? I think the settlement amount after year 1 of a 4 year package is around 8k (for the pug that is).

Many, MANY alternatives at that price point. Z4 is a good one though. What colour is your 207? wink

Negative equity? How much finance do you have outstanding on the Peugeot? What is its true market value?

Blue. I've just taken a shine to Z4's lately.

I think thw total finance was about 12k and I've paid off about 2.5k. If I was selling it today my starting price would be 9k.

I'd get a settlement figure and a trade in figure, I've got a feeling you might be worse off than you think.

Let us know how you get on with that...

Is this the car that was the best thing since sliced bread, that you couldn't understand why people didn't rate them blah blah blah I paid between 9 and 12k depending on which thread you read?
I would link to these but I'm on a mobile device - if someone else would care too?
What's changed your mind about the Peugeot then?

So what if it is? Maybe he has thought long & hard about the opinions of the posters at the time of his purchase, & come to the conclusion they are right. Maybe, after a few weeks of ownership, there were a few niggles that got stuck in his head & he wanted to upgrade to a much better car.
Are you saying that he made his choice & should stick with it?
Sounds to me that you thought this was an opportunity to ridicule him again, as you haven't answered the op at all.

Which would describe a significant proportion of the responses to posts on this forum...

What's wrong with wanting a change?

I really liked my old ITR, yet I still sold it just for a change. I can't see the problem, especially on a forum like this. Just because he wants a change doesn't mean to say he now thinks his car is st.

I still rate the pug, doesn't mean I can't fancy a change though. And the 9k/12k diff you mentioned was the 9.5k the car cost ant the 12k for the total finance. And why would people want to link them for you? And by mobile device do you mean mobile phone? And if so stop being pretentious and call it a mobile phone.
