Saw something stupid today, a nice 70 DC stretch of road (after you come off a roundabout but that is besides the point)
Only 3 cars on the road that I can see, me, a white wan, 2 women in some people carrier thing. I'm in the right hand lane doing a good speed (you know biggrin), van is behind the people carrier, both going about 50ish.
As I'm overtaking the pair suddenly the people carrier women decide that they actually want to be in my lane (for no apparent reason as there are no junctions) so force me to almost do an emergency stop.

What then proceeds to happen is that both the van and me overtake the women on the left, who calmly slot back into the left hand lane once both of us are gone as if what they did was perfectly normal.

Very strange, if the van really wanted to overtake he could have always done so by going into right hand lane....

2 women in a people carrier should have been a sign to be very wary of their actions, much like spotting an OAP in a Nissan Micra, you never know what they're gonna do.

Some crazy people like this all the time on almost all of the DC's. It's even worse at the moment with the A500 road-works where I am. People that know where the cameras start and end (Specs) just fly out of the left hand lane at the safe parts and floor it...nearly taken my bonnet off me a few times and they definitely took the whiteness out of my new pants.

Foreigners in the UK used to being overtaken on the left. Happens all the time in Peterborough.

on dual carrigeways with multiple roundabouts i find many drivers who plan to turn right at some point will drive the whole road in the right hand lane regardless of the distance to the actual exit.

Pretty much this.

Certain drivers will act in a way which is stupid/dangerous. Luckily they often flag up their abject stupidity but driving specific cars..

I partly blame speed cameras for this. Where I live people used to drive to the left. Once the cameras arrived they just started doing 40 and clogged up both lanes from start to finish. Even on a clear road you'll find a muppet driving on the right.

I see this so much, it's crazy how people don't know how to use lanes!

Last night I was on one of my favourite local DC's, stuck behind some muppet in the outside lane for 3 miles going below the NSL, did a right turn at a roundabout eventually, but why the need to sit in the outside lane at 12 midnight on an empty DC, just to do a right?

Is it really that hard to switch from lane 1 to lane 2?

Um, I'm overtaking the car, level with the van ... should I be expecting the other car to decide to enter my lane.
What do you want me to do, not overtake them?

They possibly thought you were doing something dangerous and displayed their displeasure by attempting to make you crash into them, like the ones who think overtaking kills their children so they accelerate to block the overtaker, swerve at them while they are passing or flash them to death?

Citroen Picasso = Give as wide a berth as you possibly can and expect them to do something stupid as they bobble along at 43mph.

Typical sort of thing this morning, happens all the time.

Cruising in L1 of a quite dual carriageway, up ahead in L2 is a Ford Focus approaching a white van also in L2, L1 is empty, no reason whatsoever for the van to be in L2. Van does not move over as the Focus comes up behind it, probably not even noticed it. I am coming up in L1 so flash my lights up the inside and then move to L2 behind the Focus. Van still does not move, Focus moves to the extreme right and flashes the van. Nothing. I move back in to L1, flash lights up the inside and sound horn (aggressive yes, but I really don't give a st, these selfish inconsiderate brain dead auto pilot driving scum should be taken out, put against a wall and shot), I then move back into L2 behind the Focus again. Van driver appears to have woken up at the sound of a horn and moves over. Focus passes van, I pass van, and await Focus to also move over to L1 so I can then pass Focus. But now the Focus refuses to move over for me and is doing the same thing to me as the van was to it earlier. L1 is empty.

banghead

How can it be that the Focus gets pissed off at the van for being a L2 hog, it takes our combined effort to move the van over to L1 where it should have been in the 1st place, then the Focus does the exact same thing to me? I drop down a cog and undertake, which is what I should have done with the pair of them in the 1st place. As I gain ground in L1 away from the Focus another car has come up behind it in L2 and is also having to be aggressively pro-active in getting it to move over, without success, it too then undertakes.

Repeat similar such antics with almost all & sundry every few miles.

I really do not know what the answer is frown

Unfortunately it's this:

1) Driver thinks they are going as quickly as safely possible in the conditions and believes their journey is the most important. The people going more slowly in front are needlessly being inconvenient and should move out of the way RIGHT NOW. The car impatiently waiting behind has no right to go any faster because it isn't safe to do so, so they should just wait their turn, which may or may come depending on when it suits you.

There is no '2)'.

It's kind of wrong, but I get a certain amount of satisfaction from undertaking these cretins. I enjoy seeing the dignified looks on their faces and the occasional female passenger clearly making a digusted remark to the driver as I pass by.

yes

Don't even flash them anymore, just make sure the coast is clear and the speed difference is not too much and just go straight past them.
