Take a look at this.....

Proof that they are almost indestructible, as proven by Topgear. Is there a higher mileage one in the country? This one has almost covered the same distance to the moon and back!

One of my dad's friends has a Mondeo with 300,000 odd on it. Is it just me who a mileage like this actually gives more appeal to the car if I were going to buy it?

Modern cars are much more capable of high miles.

Engine rebuilds after 100k (or less) were pretty typical once upon a time.

I bet none of the examples above "drive as tight as a drum" any longer hehe

Sold my 4Runner (UK-spec Hilux Surf) when it had 250K on it a few years back ... still see it around but no idea what's on the clock now. Replaced lots of the usual parts as you would on something with those miles but nothing ever broke.

Plenty of life in her smile Make sure it never overheats - tends to warp the heads quite quickly but other than you'll be fine. Mine was used to drag kids and trailers over Alps and dogs around fields as well as the obligatory Le Mans runs.

I once heard of Volvo buying back a old friends parents car giving the owner a new volvo with huge discount as
it was originally sold in south africa,
when they moved to Aus it was driven/ferried there,
It had been with them where ever her Dad worked,
then when they came to the UK they drove it here,
The car was (10yrs ago) at 2.2million+ or something miles,
It had full volvo documented service history!
had NO rust!!!!

its now in a volvo store somwhere with all the paper work on display aparently as a proof of coping with the trials of life, hard to imagine 2 new volvos is all you need for your motoring life!!!

I wonder what happened to the girl...hmmmm cloud9hehe

The engine isn't so much the problem with a high miler, it's all the other bits that are shagged and rusted that cost the money to replace make these so non-viable.

It's a work tool and thus can be used to earn money... they never really fall below a certain value for this reason.

A mate drove his 90 miles home one night with a 'bit of a knock' from the engine. Took the head off and no 1 piston didn't move when the crank was turned, but could be pushed down by hand! The con rod had broken at the little end. A new piston and con rod and it's still going strong.
