Not having much luck with the wedge at the moment. Just nipped out today and noticed the oil pressure is falling away dramatically after 3000rpm.

Normally my idle oil pressure would be just below half way on the gauge (40-50psi) while cold, which would drop to 25psi at idle as the engine warmed up. The pressure would increase with revs from 25psi upto around 40-45ish psi. Previous to today the pressure has always been rock solid.

But now whats happening is the pressure gauge is reading a bit higher at idle, maybe 35psi, it'll stay there until 3000rpm and then the gauge dives toward the bottom as i increase revs, i don't dare rev it to see what it'll do after that, i could do without a siezed engine! This has happened instantly with no gradual degredation, yesterday it was fine today it isn't. No untowards noises from the engine that i can tell.

Any ideas chaps?

This sounds a bit like like a sludged up filter, not allowing the oil through fast enough when revved, I think that the filter is on the suck side of the pump (but not absolutely certain).

It's cheap enough to replace the filter (and the oil with a fairly cheap fill) and try it again.

This happened to me on a Dolly Sprint, I dropped a bit into the sump and fished it out with a bit of welding wire which kicked up all the kak in the sump, straight into the filter.

Have you done anything to the car recently?

Gauges can do anything on wedges and I use the oil pressure light as the reference (not on under all circumstances), the oil pressure gauge I use an an indicator. But trends and changes, as you are experiencing, are important signals. I would not worry and investigate: earth connections to the dash/gauge first and the sender would be next.
If things are not cured the oil pressure relieve spring and oil pump would be on the list of serious things to look at.

Convert wins the prize, twas a duff sender. Local landy garage sorted me out with a new one and it's back to as before.

Thank god for that, i've had a knackered steering pump and a knackered alternator in the last week, i could do without anymore big bills this month (except fuel bills of course wink ).
