I came across a Grantura for sale however I am worried I may not be able to fit. I am 6'5" and have learned that my love for small cars is not very realistic. Is it possible? Are they bigger inside than they look wink

I'm just over 6' and have trouble in a 1600M, which I believe is probably bigger inside than the grantura.

My problem is that my knees are just at the steering wheel and knock it, biggrin. Makes heel and toeing impossible, biggrin

This is unfortunate. I wonder if modifications can be made. Maybe a racing seat can be installed. Would that help?

It may do. I think half of my problem is, the seats have been 'home' re-upholstered (read bodged biggrin ). And so the front of the seat base is very thick, which causes my knees to be raised up.

I'm not sure what the seats/inside of a grantura is like, but if the seats are anything like in our 1600M, I'm sure some more upright seats would help greatly, ours have such a big angle between base and back that means the seat doesn't work very well for me. It has to be either too far back, so my feet can't work the pedals properly so I can fit my knees under, or too close to allow me to work the pedals but then my knees hit the wheel, biggrin.

I wonder if I can modify my legs, biggrin

I am 6'2" and have a LOT of head + legroom in my 2500M... I made a few alternations to the seat mounts, pedalbox and removed the webasto roof to give me space for my noggin... My old man is 6'4" and can sit comfortably. Watching the old boy get in through the door is quite comical though!

Car is for sale if you wanted something ready to go smile

Buy a 3000S, the headroom is infinite (with the roof off!)

I am 6'6" !!! Drove a Mk3 for years and restoring a MK1 right now.
I have to admit that it is not very wise to drive it to the South of France.......

May I ask what modifications you made exactly?
Did you keep the original seats?

Granturas are much tighter than later cars such as the 2500M. The doors are a lot shorter so it is getting in and out that is the challenge. Once inside they're OK assuming you drop the floor. Getting seat/steering wheel/pedal position right can be a nightmare.

Find one to try. I know several people of 6ft who cannot get in MKIII

I cant say if they are the origional seats or not... They are very very old though... I replaced the runners with lower profile modern units as well as lowering the mounts much closer to the floor.

The webasto was removed and a carpet headliner put in directly on the roof, so no longer hanging down an inch or so into the cabin.

The pedals were remade so they A sit more central in the footwell and B, dont stick out quite so much towards the back of the car, thus giving slightly more leg room.

Depends on seats, steering wheel and your size. I am driving a Grantura Mk 2a with the large Triumph Mayflower steering wheel, original seats (which are moved backwards as far as possible) and it fits.

A friend (1,96 m tall) does not fit into the car as his legs hit the steering wheel! smile)

It'll be tight getting in my Griff then - I have raised the floor level with the sill. Not much of a foot well either!

Keep in mind the wheelbase affected this some. First 84", then 85 1/2", and then 90".

We are talking 59 car here so I am sure this will be the shortest 84"'s (ala a Griff 200/400) too.

Actually, I think only the VW suspension cars were 84". I believe the Griff's were the stretch model at 85 1/2". biggrin
