Fancy a new MTB to supplement my aging but still eminently serviceable C16R... two contemporary Oranges fit the bill, the ally Crush or the steel P7. Now, I'm assuming the P7 is the logical successor to my Clockwork albeit has sprung forks, but the angles seem similar and I guess it will ride much the same? The ally Crush looks more kicked out so I'm unsure whether that will make it seem less responsive and zingy... what are modern ally frames like for liveliness; always used to think they felt a bit 'dead'?

ETA - it would end up with 1.5 inch tyres if that matters smile

don't know much about the crush, but have got an 09 p7pro & love it!

Fast & challenging!

Place like Llandegla will let you try before you buy - worth a look!

Crush is a jump/play/AM bike with geo to match. P7 is a Trail bike with geo to match.

What type of riding are you going to do on it? If it's Trail the the P7. If it's jump/play/AM then the Crush.

I think the difference between the two is less than you think. The Crush isn't really categorised as jump/play, and is more AM or "hard hitting trail". I've just spent 2 days in North Wales with my new Crush and I cant fault it...

Personally I'd have a go on both to see which you prefer.

Why not cut the difference and go for light weight steel with modern angles and get an Orange R8?

Very fast, light and lively bike. With suspension forks (and gear, rather than singlespeed of course) it would make a great trail bike, as long as you're not too heavy. I reckon if you're over 15 stone then the P7 might be a better bet.

Isn't the Crush similar in concept to the Chameleon or Stiffee? Just a burly long travel hard tail that can be used for just about anything.

I'd suggest the Santa Cruz Chameleon. I've had one for the last few years and it's been great

I went for the Stiffee as I fell in love with the anodised finish and the comedy name.
