Ran over a sharp marble kerb reserving out of my drive and caused the damage below.
Can it be repaired or do I need a new tyre. Its only done 7000miles so I bit gutted if I do. But don't want to chance a blowout on my motorway commute

cheers

Id get a new one, not even worth considering what could happen with that if all goes wrong.

I'm off to my boat at the weekend in the Lakes so I'll be giving the Zed a good B-road blast. Don't want to be worrying about my tyre blowing out mid corner.

Yes unless you want three points and a fine for driving a vehicle with a defective tyre and CU30 on your licence. cop

Pah, you lot are wimps! Just get some 'rubber cement' based glue and stick that flap back down. When it cures it will be as good as new because the rubber bonds back together.

(Seriously, though - buy a new tyre as that one's fked and the above is a joke.)

Yep, definitely a new tyre there I'd say. Sometimes you get lucky if there's a really proud rim guard, this isn't one of those times unfortunately.

That's annoying. As a minimum, I'd speak to a local tyre fitter you trust for their opinion.

All is not lost then. You can tie that tyre on a rope and hang it over the side for a fender. It's worth fk all else.

Agree with everyone else. Plus if it's a rear tyre (and since you were reversing I'm guessing it is), if it's done 7,000 miles and doesn't need replacing you're not driving it hard enough wink

P.S. How fast were you reversing to do that much damage??

If you are going to replace it, why not keep the tyre and cut a section through the damaged area, to see just how bad it is/isn't.

I think that would be missing the point somewhat. You would probably cut it open and think "is that it?" but the problem comes when running at high speeds/temps/stress a tear in the wall would propagate quickly. So something which looks minor becomes very major very quickly. I'm trying to say, it won't look to bad, but really it is.

It's only ripped out a piece of rubber (which part of the rim protector)...the sidewall ply is nowhere to be seen.
It'll be fine.
