I've just been a nearly finished project Triumph Spitfire and it looks very solid, lots of new bits. It's a 1300 73 so just tax exempt.

I'm even contemplating a potential engine/drivetrain swap for something more economical/powerful. Maybe something with 6 cylinders.

Your thoughts?

If it's solid it's worth that I reckon.
To me it's about the least desirable Spit. Michelotti styled, but lacking the power of the 1500.
The rear suspension is, as far as I'm concerned, about the best it got. Never going to take TOO much power though.

All this is based upon my experience of the marque in the early 80s!

If built after Jan 1st 1973, not tax exempt, sorry.

Nothing personal but if you want something more economical & powerful then why not just by something more economical & powerful.

I've never been a fan of chopping about original classic vehicles, the thing is a classic & should stay that way. I think you would enjoy it much more if it's left original. Just my opinion obviously.

Would that be the venerable Triumph 6 cylinder engine to make a "Spit 6"? If so yes it will be more powerful, but I hope you have a good relationship with the nearest petrol station...

Seriously in answer to your original question, go for it. If the car, like people have said, is solid, then it should be good, and will give a sense of satisfaction when finished. Furthermore, values are only going to go up.

In response to your statement about it being tax exempt, was it built in 1973 or built in 1972 and registered in 1973?

I was thinking of a BMW straight six or a 200sx engine. Or a K Series or 2.0 zetec engine. Mmm I appreicate it won't be original but the world would be boring if people never experimented right?

Oh yes he definatly said it was tax exempt, so I'd think it was built in 72 and registered in 73.

Do it, would be an awsome little car. Well worth it if it is solid and tax exempt too
