I've got an intermittent fault with the front driving lamps and indicators on the S3, both of which I've traced to poor connections in the join blocks located just inside the front arches.

I'm intending to replace the stock item with some decent waterproof connectors.

Has anyone doen this, and do I simply need a trip to the local Motor Factors or can anyone recommend a specialist supplier ?

thanks

Mike

I used SureSeal connectors, they are completely waterproof and fairly compact with a good current rating.

The Sureseal connectors are available from Auto Electrical Supplies 01584 819552. Excellent same day mail order but unfortunately no web site. They will send you a catalogue which covers most electrical stuff.

You can opt for taping the connectors with self amalgamating tape, used to waterproof alsorts - it is available from screwfix, RS etc. The tape amalgamates and makes a really waterproof seal - it is very good - I use it for work for fixing some types of plumbing.

Thanks all; I'll give the connectors a go but the tape option maybe useful in a couple of other places.

Another alternative is to use standard connectors and spray them with 'conformal coating'. We do this for electronic equipment for marine and tropical applications.

Totally waterproof.

and we have cans of the stuff lying around

Used these on my indicators - they work well, but the first one is a fiddle to fit, until you get the knack. Unfortunately they are not large enough to accommodate the larger wire diameter that the headlights use, so i taped these for the time being.
