Taimar Body Lift
Discussion
Got the Taimar home and have started to strip her down ready for the body off.
Going geat guns. All the bolts are out cables disconnected etc etc.
But stuck on a couple of stupid things.
Removing the gear lever. Removed the three bolts but the lever will not come out.(does on my S) and the steering column into the UJ's do I have to drop the steering column to withdraw the splined shaft.
Cheers Andy

Hi All , I lifted My Taimer at the weekend too , but left body attached to chassis and put it onto a pair of dollies to allow me to pull the suspension apart for reconditioning whilst still allowing me to move the car about. Much use of bricks under the wheels until high enough to fit dollies underneath. Unfortunately it is not so easy to push it in a straight line with eight individual wheels wanting to go their own way. A solution involving lengths of dexion to join them together is under way. Hello Geoff are you replacing all of the bushes etc if so where are you sourcing the parts from as I will be doing the same.edited to reduce picture size

Cheers Andy
Yes , bush replacement is in the plan along with shocks front and rear , possibly front disc and caliper upgrade and lots of wire brushing and painting of chassis. I understand there is a very nice chap called Adrian Venn who supplies all these bits at I hope reasonable prices.
My Brother has a Taimar in bits as well and he is working with Compomotive wheels to get us some nice trackday wheels drilled to the correct pcd . Compomotive model MO1771 , size 7x17 to take either 215 or 225/45/17's. unfortunately we will have to use spacers behind them to get the correct ( we hope ) -ET dimension. Compomotive would make wheels to our measurements but require a minimum order of 60 wheels to do this. If we use spacers then minimum order is 8 for a good price. I will let You know when and where I source bits if you like.
Cheers.

Hi Dave ,
yes spoke with Adrian today for about 30 minutes and he was very helpful , giving tips that I had not even asked about. What made it better was that he phoned me after My call to him was missed ( he was eating toast in the kitchen....what an excuse )
My brother has a 1977 Taimar in bits too. but his has had the chassis work done and a Cosworth V6 as well ! Just needs the bodywork sorting out.

Hi all
I know its not my thread but i was thinking of lifting the boady of my 77 taimar to tidy the chassis but not all the way but after reading your posts it may be just as easy to take the boady off so i can clean it up.
I kown of all the chassis bolting points, brake pipes, fuel line and some of the electrics, doses any on know what else i my need to look for before i lift the boady.
Does any on know how heavey the boady is, what will it take to lift.
Keep up the thread as im sure we will enjoy hearing how you get on with your restoration.

Don't forget the clutch and throttle cables , gear lever, windscreen washer tubes and radio aerial in boot to name a few. Body will be quite heavy if the bonnet is anything to go by. Might help if you remove the doors and tailgate. at least 4 strong people to do the lift if you don't have a crane.
good luck !
Cheers
Geoff

Hello Campbell
I found this post very usefull
http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...
Just a bit of an up date on the Taimar have stripped the old girl down and started to inspect the chassis and oh er take a look at a couple of pics

Unfortunately some really poor repairs carried out in the past and the chassis really does need some extensive repair.
Question is do I repair this chassis or try to aquire one in better condition?
Thanks Andy

Hi Andy ,
sorry to see pics of your chassis in that state. So far I have only stripped the front end of mine so have not seen what it is really like under the body/rear end. There is a chap who posted on the TVR car club "M series" forum in the usefull links thread who says that he can produce new chassis from the original jigs. Quote below from his post minus the contact details.
quote :- " hi silverdove, my name is keith ticer and i happen to have the original factory jig for the M series car, if this is of any use to your list. i have made many chassis and currently make xxxx xxxxxx racing chassis. the M's i make are generally for xxxxxx in xxxxxxx but will make them for the public direct, saving them a fortune !"
edited to remove some names in case they don't want extra publicity. He does give his contact details but if you want them either go to the site or I can give them offline. I contacted him re a new chassis for my taimar and his price was not out of this world.
I have not seen any of his work so can not offer any comment on it. Just thought the info might be of use to you.
Cheers
