And no I'm not talking about Jo Brand.

What are these double level pedestrian crossing lights for and is it only in the thames valley where money is so freely available that it can be pissed up the wall plastering these things all over the place?

every box has 8 points.

these new pesdetrian crossing designs are a much poorer design than the old ones, where you could see the red/green man by looking across the road, which is where you want to be looking anyway.

Yeah lmao, wouldn't it be more efficient to put just one in the gap that the two of them leaves?
Surely then anyone could reach it??

They're not even buttons - just lights. In the crazy country the installed cost is probably hundreds of pounds each. It's just crackers.

Those things are fking useless. Can't bloody stand them!

We have them in town on Union St (Aberdeen main st) and they are terrible if there is ANYONE standing at the lights, because you cant see the traffic lights themselves and the crossing lights are invisible due to folk stnading beside the boxes!

Such a bloody stupid design and they can feck off, seriously. nutgobbling crapboxes.

No, but I assume independent wheelchair users can look up and down?

As can people who are standing on their own two feet, ergo, no need for two displays. Ridiculous.

i assume the 'logic' for having two is that the higher on is easier to see when somebody is standing next to the first one (which is where people naturally stand at these crossings - you have to walk up to it to press the button after all).

The previous poster is correct, the major problem with these is that as soon as someone is waiting at the crossing, having pressed the button, no other users can see the red/green man display because the first user is in the way. With the older design, it doesn't matter how many people are waiting, everyone can see the red/green man.

I'd be more concerned about the camera on the pole, what's that for?

Why not just use one illuminated box, that is 3 times bigger thus difficult to miss? Surely that would be cheaper than 2 individual boxes 30 cm apart!

Or is this far too much like common sense logic?

Better stick one in the middle for the dwarves on horseback then.
