Any ideas:



...it just fell off...!

It has B.M.I. moulded into the plastic with what looks like a number 7. Additionally, it appears to have an amber bubble on the end and a single spade connector. The hex part is c.32mm (1 1/4"?) across the flats.

Looks like an oil pressure switch?

Perhaps an old one some left under the bonnet?

Agreed. Looks like the old style oil pressure sender. Have you had your changed recently? Is youts still on the inner wing under the airbox?

Good call Lee - the oil pressure sender was replaced at the last service...

Only point is that I've driven several hundred miles since then and I would have expected it to have fallen out sooner if it was just loose!

Mystery solved - exactly as per Lee and Targ's posts.

The new-style one is still firmly attached and there's a distinct lack of oil coating the engine bay!

I'd be onto whoever services your car to tell them, it could have had interesting results had it fallen elsewhere.
