There should be reverse Grid Qualifying in all forms of Motorsport.

Points for getting top or high grid slot, (series could surely work this out).

Fastest cars at the front are basically always going to ps off into the distance or have the upper hand on anyone behind - mixing it up would make for the BEST racing, AND show up the true Noddies that are just there due to cash rather than skill. Make races so much more fun.

you would have to provide points for qualifying.

Or, bin qualifying altogether, and use the standings from the previous race as the reverse starting grid...

IE, finish first this weekend, start at the back next weekend, etc...

It would only "work" in sports where overtaking is not hindered such as it is in F1, and in those cases its an unnessecary gimmick IMO. If you did try it in F1 then assuming the incentives in Quali were substantial enough to make ALL the drivers go flat out (so you'd have to have points right down to the last but one car at minimum) then all you'd end up with is similar-paced cars next to each other, and guess what - they wouldnt be able to over take each other. The entertaining "fast car coming from the back" scenarios that people always trot out as justifications for reverse F1 grid only exist because the cars are that much faster than those they surround.

I don't "know" how it counld be worked in, but from some of the crap trhat gets into some forms of MS, let alone F1, I'm sure it could be done.

The racing would be MEGA for punters AND Drivers (separate the ones that can only do fast laps but can't "get down to it and Overtake").

You could only reverse the top 10 and still have a Q3 shootout. Points awarded from pole to 10th. Rest of the grid is in quali time order. They would have to scrap the start on the tyres you qualified on rule too. In fact they should scrap that daft anti-racing rule anyway.

Trouble is the minimum integer points awards you could have are 10pts for pole to 1pt for 10th and that would be too generous I reckon. Maybe they could have a quali championship that are valued as a full race points score at the end of the season 25-18-15 etc.? There would effectively be an official title for F1's fastest man then.

Still wouldn't work - even with the massive advantage that Red Bull currently enjoy the top 10 cars are close enough to each other that with the current on alot of the tracks currently on the calendar that overtaking would still be minimal. Gimmicks like the reverse grid are just that, gimmicks. Fix the tech regs and the racing will come.

I like seeing over taking and having more oppurtunities to do this on track (for me is more fun).

Or reverse everyone but the top 10? That way still motivation to go fast in qualifying.

There are people who know they can't get into the top 10 and so will sand bag to get the 11th slot.

Why don't we have lucky dip tyres while we're at it?

Scrap qualifying (apart from 1st race).

Of those that FINISH (or those that finish in the points), reverse the order. At the back of the grid are those that DNF. They either go in the order they finished the previous race or you have a qualifying next race for the DNFs.

But that's just random... a far fairer way would be to have the team principals run around the track wearing oversized chicken suits and the slowest gets to choose tires and fuel levels for everyone else on the grid hehe

That has the basis of a very workable idea.

Sporting wise that's as close as I've seen to a workable idea, but it doesn't change the fact that unless a car finishes massively out of position its still going to be surrounded by cars of a similar pace and in F1 at least overtaking still won't happen. However there are commercial reasons that would kill this anyway - qualifying session provides both TV and spectator audiences, which in turn provides revenue.

NASCAR. Which doesn't have reverse grids but does have plenty of overtaking. But people say it is boring even so wink.

Aye just have one qualifying and ofocurse the better you do the harder you have to work harder to get more points.
