I currently have a Beetle Cabriolet and need something bigger as there is another sprog on the way. I looked at the focus and heard really good things so I think I'm set on getting one of these. But I don't know whether to get an Estate or Hatchback. This will be a car I keep for many years so I want it to accommodate children, a dog in the future and also the pushchair aswell as shopping. Which counds better for me?

Also how much bigger are the estates compared to the hatchs? I don't like too bigger cars. My dad has a volvo XC70 and this was quite big but only in the sense of parking.

Anyone kind enough to help me please.

I'd get an estate if you can find one. The estate is 13cm longer than the hatch (which really isn't very much) but has a fair bit more load space.

I think the estate is a couple of inches longer than the hatch but easier to manoeuvre due the rear window being at the very rear of the car. Probably a better bet for dogs I would think too. You'll soon get used to the bigger size. Ooh err..

Get an estate, my wife thought it was a good idea to get one as a family car and she was right, totally practical.
Ours is a passat which we've had for 7 years now with only minor problems.
