Is anyone else disappointed with F1 this year so far?

I am. Apart from the Saturday qualifying, Martin's gridwalk and the start to the pitstop, it's a bloody procession.
I know we've just had one of the most processional Gp in Monaco, but I was so looking forward to some close racing, overtaking and wheel to wheel stuff. What we have is verging on boring. There, I said it. The leaders are covering each other's pitstops and that's it. I'm not convinced that the 'new' aero package for this year designed to improve things has worked. We've seen plenty of times when drivers have steamed up behind a car and then.......followed it. Unable to pass because of dirty air.
I don't know what the answer is, but I'm really not as full of optimism as I was before Bahrain - which was awful. Unless it rains halfway through a race, it really is mind numbing.
Am I alone in this thought?

Your not alone i thought that banning the refueling would spice things up more overtaking on track instead of in the pits but now they just cruise round saving tyres they need to bring in an extra tyre change then they can race its killing people like Hamilton and other hard chargers who kill tyres.
Very disappointed, only just watched Sunday's race a few moments ago. I fast forwarded large parts of the race.
A few of the races need to go, including Monaco (blasphemy I know), it just isn't suitable for modern F1. Get rid of it, along with Bahrain, Hungary, Valencia and perhaps Singapore.
It also needs some major rule changes.
I'll see it through to the end of the season, but if it continues the way it is, I won't bother watching next season, I'll just keep an eye on the results.

No. They need to make tyre stops free. That way the teams have the option of raping two sets of softs to give the same race time as going the whole distance on one set of hards.Don't introduce anything compulsary unless it is for safety. No more restrictive rules. It spoils the show.
I'm watching for over a decade - thought the removal of refuelling would backfire and so it has. Very disappointed with the season, the only exciting races have been so thanks to the weather. You just have to improve the <mechanical:aerodynamic> grip ratio - smaller wings and fatter tyres, I just cant see anything else working because the (incredibly skilled and talented) engineers have succeeded in producing once unimaginable levels of downforce.

Well, history can improve with age and there is a perception that F1 was much more exciting in the "old days" but in truth, the proportion of good, exciting races to the dull ones was probably not far off what we have now. (I've never watched one but would wager that a 5 hour blast round a 10 mile circuit would not make for good Sunday afternoon viewing).We have only had TV that commits to showing every race in full since the early 90s. Before then, it was the British GP only and edited highlights of the others - if you were lucky.
I think the key difference is that in the past, those few exciting races were exceptionally thrilling, whereas today, they are simply just, exciting. It's just that because we see all the races, our perception has shifted to it producing a predominance of rather dull races when the reality is, despite a small handful of seasons, it has always been thus.

and yet the cars are only marginally faster than GP2 cars that have no issues with overtaking....JLJ said:

So your watching avidly now are you?! Im pretty sure you may as well just look at results now if you just fast forward though the race anyway. I'll see it through to the end of the season, but if it continues the way it is, I won't bother watching next season, I'll just keep an eye on the results.
I have watched every session of the season so far. Sure the dry races havent been out and out classics but most are no different to last year if you exclude false overtaking in the pits that refueling brought. F1 has never been about constant position changes, get used to it.
I still enjoy every second...sure im hoping the regs are improved for closer racing in the future but am totally sick to death of people complaining and threatening to switch off, do me a favour and switch off so you stop moaning!

The thing is though; Bridgestone have made the tyres too good - it should not be possible for Alonso to pit on lap 1 and then stay on the same set of tyres for the rest of the race. Before the weekend they were saying that Monaco was going to hard on the tyres!
Whatever they do with the new tyre contract they have got to look at this side of it or we will get more of the same.

Monaco was good viewing in my opinion,plenty of crashes,irate drivers waving a fist at 170mph on a twisty street,cars drifting around millimetres from the barriers.Overtaking is great,but it's not everything,there's plenty for real enthusiasts.I even like EJ.

I really get pissed off with aggressive posts like yours. So what are you saying? I should watch it all or not at all? Or at the very least, I shouldn't respond to a thread (not started by you I hasten to add), to offer an opinion that differs to yours, even though that was the point (in fact the request) of the op?

And without continually banging the 'it used to be better' drum, it really was better a good number of years ago. I made a point of re-watching some old races to check that it wasn't 'rose coloured specs' and sadly I was right. It's gone downhill.
Back to 2010. They keep trying to falsely add components to the race to spice up the racing which don't work. Compulsary hard and soft tyres, refuelling bans, dodgy aero changes etc.
They need to get back to the ability for teams to take risks with strategy to win races, and drivers to be rewarded for taking the extra risk.
The core of the current F1 car doesn't promote close racing / overtaking (under normal conditions).
I still believe a large part is down to the relative lack of engine power compared to grip. When it's wet and the pendulum swings the other way, we have very close racing.

I'm sorry but that's *never* happened.
I am loving this year. It will go down as a classic. The script could not be written, practically *nobody*, nobody at all, predicted the championship would be led by Jenson Buton and then Mark Webber.
Everyone thought that Button and Webber would be getting slaughtered by their team mates, yet it isn't happening. We've had more overtaking already this season than in possibly the last 2 decades or more. We've got 4 world champions. We've got a Villenueve in Hamilton. We've almost got a Prost in Button. We've got a 7 time wdc returned to the sport who is keeping us all talking. We've got *great* coverage by the BBC, with no adverts. I mean, really excellent coverage imo what with the three presenters that we've got, and the red button forum after the race, not to mention Fivelive commentary if you want it. We've *never* had these things before.
Come on guys, how can *anyone* realistically expect anymore? Honestly, i really think some of you guys are just watching the wrong sport, I really do. F1 isn't about crash,bang wallop, nor is it about 50 lead-changes like Indycars used to be, and furthermore, F1 was never these things, ever.
It's a brilliant season, I'm loving it, and can't wait for more.
