Just to throw a random question for discussion;

What are your views on peoples behaviour changing when their drunk. By this I mean anything from people changing from nice, considerate and kind natured, to just selfish and not that pleasent, or the sensible composed person turning into a raving lunatic, reserved girls turning into plain sluts or people crossing the line with racist jokes, breaking the laws of decency etc etc.

I know we all push the boundaries of what is acceptable to ourselves when we're drunk and I'm the first person to put my hand up and admit to doing some stupid things, but how representative of a actual person would you judge them on, when their drunk.

I reason I ask this is because in the last 6 months I've met a really great friend at my new workplace, but as I've got to know him and go out drinking with him at the weekend, they turn into a really unpleasent person that I normally wouldn't choose to hang about with (I'm not going to go into specific details, but he turns cocky, aggressive but also quite offensively racist with his humour - which he brushes off as just a joke and the drink talking - I know my ethnic friends wouldn't take too lightly to this if they were there). This is the total opposite of what I normally see from him day to day when he genuinely is the most polite, kind and pleasent person who'll go out of his way to help anyone - it really is like comparing day and night.

Your thoughts please???

The drink isn't putting those thoughts in his head, merely letting them out.

Always take it with a pinch of salt in honestly, everyone acts differently when drunk, some take it to extremes some don't.

I definitely would not base an opinion of the person overall on simply how they are after a few vodkas....

I'm sorry, I just can't get over that bit....

However, as a poster above has said, the bottom line is that booze chips away at the inhibitions and shield that people put up in society. So to me, the real person that they are is the one you meet when they are drunk.

Quite the contrary. Their true personality comes to the fore.

Rather, the current events surrounding their life come to the fore. If someones stressed, upset or has a lot of tension in their day to day life it will come out in tears and agression. Alcohol doesn't change people, it just magnifies their worries and fears.

Having said that, if a pattern emerges like the OP has observed, then I'd say that it is most likely that the true personality is coming to the surface.

Mrs slopes used to say i was an aggresive drunk, and i suppose i was, however over the last 3 or 4 years i have mellowed and become a silly, flirtatious drunk. I should add, that for me to get drunk only takes about 3 pints, i also tend to get major hiccups when i have had a few

No matter how often I tell my wife this I never get the dirty drunk action unless I spike her tea with white wine.

I used to be like that. I'd be really mellow and a bit more chatty and I'd get a permanent grin. More recently though I've been getting very aggressive when drunk, so much so that I'll now hardly ever drink at all and never more than two beers or a glass of wine.

I can't help you understand it because I don't either. There's more stress in my life now but whether that's the cause or whether it's just me changing as I get older I don't know.
