Hey all

There's a black 1.6 litre Hyundai Coupe SE for sale locally, the 2000 reg one with the circular headlights, 60,000 miles and full service history for £2100. On first sight, I find them a pretty ugly car but slowly been growing on me each time I go past it. Personally I think a little overpriced for what it is, but could get it down a little. I know they are slow... but do they really feel that sluggish? Is it worth looking at under closer inspection or should I just totally give it a miss? I think I can already predict the responses I'm likely to get biggrin

There's other cars of similar nature up for sale in the area. one in particular being a well looked after ford cougar 2.0 with full service history and similar mileage for £500 less, for example. In my opinion, that would fare myself and my boyfriend better as a slightly "different" runabout than the hyundai. I know its wallowy and heavy but you don't see many about.

I'm used to a 1.6 focus 3dr at the moment, and by my standards, that is a little too sluggish for the roads around here (too many tourists driving at 40mph with little overtaking places!) so thats a useful comparison for the coupe's performance specs.

Very very slooow, even the v6 is rubbish.
Nice cars to look at (Apart from the twin headlamp one imo) and they wont fall to bits but they are dull unfortunately.

Thought so. Only the 2003 onwards model would be worth buying in that case, and thats only purely for the looks alone. Cheers

0-60 in 10.8 sec and only 36 mpg is enough for me to avoid it.

TBF, most bread & butter 1.6's are going to be a little slow though.

I had a 97 2.0 SE for a while and thought it was great fun. If you could get one of those for about a grand I'd say go for it, but 2k for a ten year old 1.6 seems steep.
