Hi

I've had the girlfriends MX5 up for sale for 5 days now and the response has been a little weak.

I am starting to wonder if my ad has a problem, price not right or the car is not as desirable as I though it may have been.

Comments welcome:

It might be the colour, I never even considered a Mk2 in that colour I'm afraid.

Any number of reasons ,no idea about the price as I don't follow the MK2 but 5 days is not really that long a time ,I would start to worry in a couple weeks when the weather has improved a bit more and soft top buyers are out there smile

Is that the 85bhp 1.6 engine? If it is that might be your problem

5 days isn't that long. However sorry to be the bearer of bad tidings but I'm pretty sure that unfortunately that is the least popular colour for an MX5. Coupled with the fact it's a 1.6 makes it much less desireable in comparison to other 5s. Still, as they say there is a bum for every seat - is it priced competitively? It needs to be less than other 1.6 cars in more desireable colours.

The colour is a love it or hate it colour I suppose- the GF love's it.

The engine is the ~ 110bhp model.

I know 5 days is not long but for some reason I expected it to be a quick sale. Maybe a couple of sunny days will bring the punters flocking!

Quite right.
I think its just a case of having the right buyer who wants a standard looking car (I am not keen on the wheels on a couple of the cars in the links) and doesnt mind or even likes the bronze colour.

The links above tell me I am not far off in price stakes. I doubt a £200 price reduction would increase the number of enquires greatly.

Looks like a very nice clean car to me. Not my choice of engine or colour but the price still looks about right to me.

You'd be surprised how much difference £200 makes . I've adverised cars in the past at reasonable money to no avail and tried again two weeks later ( autotrader when the mag was more popular than t'interweb)at £200 less and sold within a day or so.

I do not doubt this can be the case but,
If someone would not consider the car due to colour, then I dont think dropping the price by say £200 would make them think again, £500 possibily but thats not for me at this time!

I think the car will sell but it may take a little longer than I first thought.

Interesting though.

Just the colour I think, but I would say a few days of sunshine (and maybe new photos in summery weather) and it should sell.

Not much use to you but really glad I clicked on the last link, definitely want the wheels on my mkii done in black now smile

i think the price is fair as it looks in great condition but it's quite a base spec, with the smaller engine and the 14" wheels. pistonheads just might not be the best place to advertise a completely stock and standard car, i'm thinking a lot of people that come on here looking for something a bit modified in some way. have you tried autotrader, i think you would have better luck on there. or is teh mazda OC still going, they probably value stock cars higher than some.

Yeah, the car is on Autotrader. I tried pistonheads first due to the free ad and then added it to autotrader in time for the weekend.

Don't worry after just five days, mine has been up for fifteen days now and all i've had are two complete wasters enquiring.

Here's mine what's wrong with this one?

Break up the block of text for a start. It's hard work reading that.

Ad doesn't say 1.8 or 2 litre? Is it a 1.8? When you search high > low the two cars either side of yours (ie the same price) are 2 litres...
