just went outside my house to have my neighbour come over and say that a group of kids have being throwing stones at each other over the top of my parked car, hence the contents of my front garden are now across the road.

I didn't see which did it or I would have given him a good kicking. I went and spoke to the group of kids quickly walking away but obviously no one owned up to it. What can you do though - I couldn't hit everyone as I'd be locked up, you can't call the police as lets face it they won't give a fk.

I recognise one of them from down the road so going to go round once his mother is back from work and get him to give me the name and address of which one did it. Then go round and speak to the parents.

they have chipped my door and front wing enough for me to notice.
...you can't take kids to a small claims court can you??? serious question

I'm so pissed off at the moment, ripped my sideway yesterday on a sharp kerb so had to order 2 new tyres today.

I feel your pain fella, nightmare. When our neighbours kids wobble their pushbikes around my driveway it makes me nervous and I politely tell them to 'move along please'.

Can it be classed as criminal damage? Get the cops involved? I'm not sure how realistic that is but bloody hell, kids chucking stones at my car would seriously get my back up to break some heads!

I'm tempted to call the non-emergency police number. But they'll give me a reference number and wish me good night. I'd rather go round and rip his fking head off - I so pissed off at the moment.

If the parents are of a decent sort, could they claim on their household insurance to cover the repairs?

Sorry to hear your woes. Its what worries me about buying a second car and leaving one on the street.

No minimum age for small claims court apparently. You wouldn't get any money out of them most likely unless they have a savings account as their parents aren't liable for their actions. God, I feel like an utter, utter bd for even posting that. biggrin

they were about 12yrs old.

I know that if I try the Small Claims court route I wont have a hope in hell - but at least it would innconvience the parents and they might have to shell out a few quid on legal advice.

Go to your police website. Find your local officer (post code search) and then email them direct with what has happened. Tell them you know who has done it and have their details. Ask them to pop round and meet you.

They should then be able to go round the address and get the matter sorted either by getting the damage fixed or dealing with the offender.

Why?

They have all sorts of targets they have to achieve. The OP knows who the offender is and has a witness. Vast majority of criminal damage has no witness and no means of ever proving who the offender is.

It's quicker than it used to be when you could only report crime at the station or if you could find the officer in person.

Most forces let you report crime on the internet. It's easier then ever to report it and 1 in 3 crimes reported in most forces see an offender identified and dealt with.

Most forces have a 'restorative' justice scheme where they actively look to get the kids to say sorry and damage paid for.

You need to move to a different area. Kids on my street apologise if their football even comes into the garden nevermind hitting the car.

didn't actually think of that. I've given it a go though. It's unfair to criticize the Police until I've given them a go. ....its being 10mins and they haven't replied yet! Ha ha
