I know the oil topic has been done to death, and I have tried to look through all the old posts but am still confused

Can someone tell me if say Castrol 10/60 is better for hot conditions than 0/40. i think it is.

Also can i mix 10/60 with 0/40? and (finally)

Is it easy to drain the oil and fill up again (I promise to buy the bible soon!!)

Need to know these things, cos i now have my Chim in Oz and its over 30 degrees every day at the moment and the car is running very hot!!! I know its not what you want to hear over there in the UK.....sorry

If i remember correctly, i'd say your 10w60 is by far the better choice, as 0w40 is just TOO thin. Add that with the temperatures you get there and i don't think you should be using anything below a 10W---

All in my opinion, no doubt someone who knows what they're talking about will come along soon.. then another, then another. Apparently PHers are like busses....

0/40 can be too thin..but better in winter (it'll get round the engine quicker).
10/60 is thicker and is better for hotter conditions.

Yes you can mix the oils.

Not sure about last point.

The way I had it explained was :

e.g. 10/60

The 10 is the cranking viscosity - so zero is very thin
and is good so winter starting (10 is also very low).

The 60 is the ultimate protection value (or something like that) - in my book the 10/60 is better that the 0/40.

Mobile 1 also do another grade - 10/40 .. if I remender right.

Quite a few people have recommended a semi synthetic by valvolene (American) it's something like 15/50 and should quite suite the RV8 engine.
