It seems there will will now be tighter controls on Hedge Funds.

I can't imagine why the EU brought this in.

As the UK has 80% of the Hedge funds, I am sure this will soon be reduced as they bugger off to greener pastures.

Socialsist across Europe really don't like capitalism.

Isn’t it one of the avowed goals of our Gallic friends, to reduce the financial muscle of London? . . . . . . . . The more I hear of and see the effect of the EU on this country, the more I have to wonder if it's simply a vehicle for the French or Germans to take over the continent, without having to resort to another war they wouldn’t win

In order to facilitate a fiscal union, which is necessary for a more sucessful Eurozone, you need to first gradually level the playing field so that harmonisation is less sudden.

Drip drip drip.

We're in the process of ridding ourselves of the UK tapeworm of public spending, I think it's about time we got shot of this virus.

Really, what do they give us in terms of Economic Success?

Answer:- Very very little.

Last two posts are spot on, I really can see a situation developing, at the instigation of both the frogs and Germans, where our combined "bright young thing" leaders suddenly wake up and smell the coffee....hopefully....

hehecry

I don't know whether to laugh or cry, I know it's very daily wail to say this, but I really do think we're going to be in serious trouble in this country in the next few years.

I think it's fine and there is nothing to worry about.

Forget the full bore Europhiles we have in charge, it's a similar situation in Germany.

People are getting pissed off at having their leaders spunking the country's hard earned up the wall whilst the lazy commies (PIIGS) bleed them dry and bleat for more. The Social Democrats (much like ours) who are failing to represent the people's wishes are starting to have their la-la-la-not-listenings drowned out by angry people.

I read about German people, both business and academic getting pissed off at this folly and I can see it pursue it's dogged goals further and further into unreality. The Soc-Dems have the controls and can wield a huge amount of power, but the reality is, unless there is a radical and sudden turn of faith to reality, in the form of a successful euro, which is more likely to be facilitated by political/economic union, this is unlikely. They are merely wielding the controls of the titanic as it sinks and breaks up.

People are looking at the project a lot less romantically now and are questioning it's integrity. Merkel can demand that everyone takes it seriously and throw trillions around, but the seeds of it's destruction are sown.

I'm not worrying about the lack of UKIP policy in the UK, it is totally and utterly irrelevant. The weak career cat's-who-just-want-the-warmest-lap politicians we have "in charge" are meaningless.

The demise of the Euro will start over the channel and I think it's well underway.

All of this leads me to the firm belief, There is nothing worse than people who think they know best and who's moral code has given them permission to ram their non-real politics and economics down people's throats.

By virus do you mean the hedge fund industry?

Considering we don't really have a manufacturing industry, what industries do we think are significant ones now.

By not having a manufacturing industry, do you mean that having the 6th largest manufacturing industry in the world is effectively not worth having?

I stand corrected - it was a throw away comment based on the decline in recent years.

I think the EU decision is being seen by more than a few as somewhat more politically motivated and anti-London rather than from a nice and fluffy "let's stop these people short-selling stuff".

No, I was talking about the EUSSR.

The finance industry is something ridiculously able to move just-like-that and if you go regulating it/fking with it's taxes, it will foxtrot oscar, with a huge fallout on GDP and EU-Dues. (Well, I suppose they'll just take them anyway).

I am of a firm conviction that mining/steel will return to the UK and due to the fkery from politicians and the smashing of the pound, probably sooner than later. I am aware that there is work afoot in this respect in a lot of areas.

The EU has to deflate the UK very very carefully as not to harm itself in the process of gradually taking the offshore-friendly UK into the offshore-unfriendly EU. It's not very likely that they will adopt a UK like policy. They couldn't abstract enough money for their lavish commie-schemes.

We shall see.

My money is firmly on them not getting that far. Since the hopes on which the recovery (rofl) is based are politically twisted and inaccurate.

Well it is. The rest of the EU have no significant base of financial services, especially hedge funds.

good riddance. ban these evil hedgefunds and ban CDS on sovereigns. how dare these people say we are living beyond our means? i know, we'll imply that fund investors don't pay tax because they are all uk offshore domiciled, that'll upset the voters. besides how come frankfurt and paris are empty when the rosbifs don't even use the euro? how do we get some of that?
