It's now been 15 hours since we lost power in half of our street in SW London and I am very concerned about the food in the fridge and freezer.

Typical as I did a big shop yesterday and there is a lot of meat, yoghurts and milk in the fridge.

Still seems cool in the fridge compartment but when do I give up and chuck the perishables. Freezer still seems to be frozen and there is no melted water yet.

Mac has the last bit of battery and having to use my 3G phone for internet. Better bloody well be fixed soon or I'll end up in the 19th Century and I was Sky plussing Wheeler Dealers tonight.

Go and buy some ice-cubes, keep some in the freezer and some in the fridge.

Cheers all. Power came back after 16 hours.

Freezer OK, all food still rock hard.

Fridge felt like a cool larder so cooked the packaged mince but threw the chicken and opened cold meats away.

I know the food council has to be careful but they say chuck after 5 hours.

Milk smells fine tho' and how did we manage before fridges.

So only about £10 lost unless we all get beri-beri tomorrow.

A full unopened freezer should last anywhere between 24-48 hours in a power cut. The trick is not to keep opening the door to check if your food is still frozen wink

Remember that a freezer is about -15C so it can warm up by 14C and still be frozen spin
