Oil In Airflow Meter
Discussion
Changing the oil and airfilter today and there was oil inside the Air Flow meter and in the pipework towards the inlet manifold. How could the oil get there? The airfilter itself was clean and there is no oil in the airbox so it must be coming from somewhere else. Car is an Audi 80 2.0e (8v engine).
The top of the engine has an oil breather pipe - this oil vapour has to
be burnt - to do this they put a pipe to the inlet side of the engine.
If you have excess oil vapour - could be a sign you either :
need and oil / filter change
engine is getting warn (suggest you get a compression test to confirm)
and if the result is bad (get rid..).
