Sorry yet another thread on this but I really don't want to be the guy who buys a car and passes something on the drive home and thinks "fk I never thought of one of those!".

Long story short, got a 2006 Boxster right now, fancy a change, want brand new, max of £30k or so. Only need 3 doors, don't want anything too similar to the Boxster as I'll always be comparing.

Don't like BMW 1-series, nor do I like the Golf (incidentally I was surprised that the R is more than an S3?). Hate to sound snobby but having had the Porsche I'm not sure I'd want to go to something like a Focus ST or Astra VXR.

So far I'm thinking S3? (I know "luxury" is stretching it but I wanted to convey the sentiment of the question).

I think you got it right with S3.

You don't like Golfs but you'll buy an S3? nuts

Stop being a pansy and go and buy a 370Z.

Not really. I'd like a luxury hot hatch. I don't want a stripped out hot hatch. I want a hot hatch with nice plush leather sports seats, nice quality trim, etc etc, and I can completely see why others do, too.

The 6 cylinder engines in the 1 series and the Golf will have a more luxurious feel than the 4 cylinder S3 unit I`d have thought.

How about a C30 T5?

That may explain it, I was just surprised what a Golf R costs and that's without any toys.

C30 is very nice, but there's cars I like but for various reasons, some of which I don't even know, I wouldn't have - and that's one of them.

Whats putting you off the 1 series? The 135i is probably the best car for your money. OK, its not a hatch, but must tick most other boxes??

Ay, if they get their hair 'styled' at Toni & Gay.

Different strokes for different folks I guess.
Well, there does seem to be a market for it. I get a £7 haircut from the local barbers, by the way!

They just don't do much for me. Personal taste and all that, and I can see why some would say "An Audi?!" but if you don't like the look of the thing it doesn't matter what it drives like IMO.

I don`t go a bundle on the C30 either but it was the first multi cylinder (more than four anyway) hatch that I thought of that wasn`t a Golf or 1 series.

I`d be seriously looking at a 130i / 135i. They really are very good.

R20 Golf is a 4 cylinder petrol same as the S3.

They phased out the 3.2 V6 in the mk5 R32.

Mazda 3 MPS (not sure what the trim levels are like though) or failing that, not necessarily a GTi but maybe a Brera?

My money would go on a Focus RS MK6 Golf GTi or a 135i none o which you like

Audi S3, No way on earth

FWIW As stated before the 135i is probably the best hot medium sized car available at the moment

Yes he is bonkers. He should spend his £30,000.00 on something he doesn't like the look of. ????????
