Done by a 4x4 diesel
Discussion
Well, had the 350i on the road for a couple of months now, done about 500 miles after putting in a new fast road cam and doing a standard but tidy rebuild of the top end.
Did a compression test when put back together and was very low, about 130psi. Put it down to worn rings/bore as all pistons similar. Bit gutted should have done the bottom end as well.
Car has never felt fast and makes loads of noise. Bought a 3.9 bottom end to rebuild over winter and put in for next year ... well that was the plan until today. Came off the new A130 and joined the old A130 at round about, inside lane, second gear about 2.5 to 3 k revs behind a 4x4, gunned it as he pulled over and well ... he held the gap on me, bit embarrasing, think the 3.9 may happen sooner.

BBT.

Did you do a compression test before too? Don't want to be theorising too early but maybe the cam timing is well off and the valves are opening or closing at the wrong times.
Check the opening of No 1 valves against TDC - does anyone have figures for what the inlet and exhaust valve peaks should be?
If it turns out to be off then whip off the front cover and adjust it.
