I was going to ask about this - may as well hijack your thread wink

What's the going rate for supermarket 95 in the Calais region at the moment? I ask cos I'm off to France tomorrow evening via le Chunnel but unless I can fill up somewhere cheap at 3am in the Maidstone area I'll need to fill up in France (my tank will get me a bit past Calais).

From what I can gather the price looks comparable to here.

And in response to the OP - what is your friend putting the V-Power in? I ask because over the past couple of years (please ignore my "member since"; I've retired my old username) I've noticed a lot of PHers seem to stick the stuff into some cars that simply don't need it. (With apologies if he's got some high-compression turbo-nutter Jap import drift special wink)

What about diesel...is it still half the price of petrol over there?

No, I paid 1.48 a couple of weeks ago, did a 20 Euro splash and dash and filled up here.

Sounds strange to me, i was in France at the weekend (Abbeville) and diesel was around £1 a litre (thats 1 pound not Euro).

Petrol was slightly more but not more than over here.

1.60 a litre? Even on the notoriously expensive autoroute network ( and i drove 350 miles in France yesterday coming home) i never saw petrol over 1.32 a litre.

Diesel at supermarkets was as low as Euro1.09 a litre, making it a significant saving compared to the UK with current exchange rates.

Here's hoping the new crowd do something about it...
Oh yes, once Dave and Nick have come back nice and tanned from their honeymoon they'll get right on to it, slashing taxes, sacking all the public sector wasters, reducing benefits and halving the national debt. The pound will rally and fuel will be cheap... Somehow I think not, if you haven't been paying attention cameron and clegg are just another pair of lefty buffoons albeit nowhere near as incompetent as their predecessors.

Not just France, all over Europe it is like that. In Germany you're looking at *approx* €1.50 a litre for petrol and *approx* €1.25 for diesel.

I was in Belgium at the weekend and they have some un-manned petrol stations where the diesel was around €1.05 or something like that.

Couple those prices with the exchange rate €1 = 85p or 100p = €1.17 then it is pretty pricy for people paid in pounds to buy fuel in € frown

Filled up in Le Clerc in Boulogne-sur-mer last night and it was €1.23 per litre for diesel, which is pretty good compared with the UK. No idea what petrol is though!

Glad to see you've given them a chance to get settled before making a judgement on their tenure...

I went to Bergerac and back two weeks ago and filled up several times and paid from €1.30-€1.49 around the country. On the plus side, the unmanned petrol stations do now work with English credit cards, which they never used to, which was very helpful.

V power 100 octane petrol is about £1.13 a litre here in Switzerland this week. Regular super uneladed is about £1.07.
A year ago, it was about £1.00 for the V power and a year before that it was 80p!

I have recently found V power diesel Incredibly expensive in Germany, £1.35 a litre and tha same day rgular diesel 10% bio in Belgium at an unmanned station for 98p.

In France, diesel is still a lot cheaper, but it's similar prices to UK genrally, but unleaded and Super partcilarly is a flipping joke in France just now once you convert to Sterling. And this is the biggest problem, the plummeted £. Hopefully as the Euro bombs, we may see some improvements in time for LeMans...?...naahhh!

Diesel this morning in Cahors was 1.182 euro and I think 95 is about 1.36 with 98 being about 1.40. Last week diesel was 1.13.

I think the cheapest it has been in six years is 0.92 so its not risen too badly really.

I seem to remember Andorra being very cheap a year or two ago about 0.77 euro.
