Long story short, after 6 years in IT I've decided its not for me. I have very little interest in it and to be honest only really studied it as I was unsure about what I wanted to do and it seemed a safe stable option at the time.

But now my dilema is what do I go into, how do I begin to decide what my new career should be. What are the first steps? I'm fearful of making a wrong choice again so any advice is appreciated.

what type of job in IT?
what bits did you like (solving someones problem and them being happy , fixing a technical issue)
what did you hate

One thing that is always good to do is go onto various job boards, Jobsite, Monster, CV Library, Total Jobs etc and simply type in "trainee"

This will bring up a variety of entry level jobs, have a look over them and see if anything takes your fancy.

Write down a list of everythign you enjoy doing
write another list of e erything that you're good at

See where there is common ground between the two and focus there.
