bit of a change from what car.

right, i have bridgstone re040s on the back of my r53 MCS (girly girl haridresser estate agent general n0b's car - just to get that out of the way!).

I am trying to decide what to put on the front.
I think I have got it down to:
pzero nero
re050a

re040

even though i'd have a matching set if i went for re040s i just think they'll not be as good as re050as! scientific i know.

pzero neros are about £30 for the pair cheaper but i think i can stomach £30 so i just want to know if they're any good.

views?

i am thinking of going with etyres this time.

I like the RE050A, fair bit more grip than the RE040 and a little softer / more comfortable. No experience with the Neros but they get a pretty good write up here: http://www.tyrereviews.co.uk/Tyre/Pirelli/PZero-Ne...

Also worth mentioning the Falken ZE912s seem to be liked on the Cooper S which are a fair bit cheaper

i know it's a totally different 'model' (and car for that matter) but i had falken 502(??)s on my old fiesta 1.4 (!) and they were lousy unless they were warm...

might be worth a shot.

(oh and when i say re050as i mean the normal version not the runflat)

RE050A is a good tyre, wear like fury though (similar to the RE040). The Turanza ER300 gives similar grip to the RE040, but lasts an awful lot longer (320 treadwear compared to 120/140 on the RE050A). I'd say the ER300 handles a little better than the RE050A, the sidewalls seem stiffer, but they have a fancy spongy part below the tread which keeps the comfort up.

For me the choice would be easy because I hate having different tyres on a car so I rotate them and always replace 4 at a time so I'd go for the 040 or swap back to front until they all need changing and then get some Vredestein Ultrac Sessanta or PS3.

Having used both the Zero Nero and the Re05a, I would say they are fairly similar in terms of grip. The Re05a's seems to have a stiffer side wall but for me they seemed to last a bit longer in terms of wear than the Zero Neros

I used to do that but i got a damaged sidewall on a vredestein ultrac at the time they went 'bust' and there was bugger all supply. so i had to go to something else and i wanted a pair and so went to the re040s...

i quite like the feeling of the re040s (i think because by front vredesteins are so bombed out that all the grip i have is fromthe diff!) the car seems to move about a bit but it's progressive not let go at once.

Ive just replaced a full set of P Zeros on my wife's Boxster that were just a year old. Never driven in anger, nursed everyday yet were as bald as a badger! Replaced them with Pilot Sports but on my M3 and daily I have FK452s and Toyo Proxes.

Id go with the Proxes.

For info the 502 is a very old tyre and was very poor but the successor (512) was much better.

No they were Rosso and the Proxes are T1R (which will be replaced with 452s when needed)

For the record I only replaced the P Zeros with Sport PS2s because they came on a set of mint alloys as we needed a refurb too. I wouldnt usually spunk £600 on a set of tyres as I believe that Falkens (all my cars for the passed 5 years have had them) are the best tyre you can find for a very very cheap price. It is a bit strange that the 912 is more expensive than 452 in certain sizes though.

FWIW, the 912 is a notably better tyre than the 512, which is better than the 502.

I don't know, but i've heard people praise the 912 after coming from a 452.

The Bridgestone RE040 isn't that grippy in the dry, and is fairly poor in the wet. I love them though as they slide beautifully and the ride is so hard you can feed exactly what the car is doing. You will lose some of this no matter what tyre you pick!

Good size for bargains!!! £57.00 for both Kuhmo Ecsta Sports and 912s.

Right. tyre man is getting me some Falken912s. i am paying a touch more than the prices quoted here but not enough to make any real difference and still half the price of the bridgestones.

if nothing else it's an experiment..!

i don;t rush in the wet anyway so we'll see!
