Local wheel refurbishment?
Discussion
Got a set of original wheels to go on my E30 that need stripping and repaintint/powder coating. As the car is my nail/run-about I want them done as cheaply as possible though! Any suggestions?
I'd toyed with painting them myself (which I'm still happy to do.) But will need to get the old paint stripped off at least, I'm assuming by some sort of acid dipping. Again, any ideas on who to try for this?

do it yourself if you want a cheapy job - I did the BBS's on my mk2 gti a few years back - bit of elbow grease with some wet and dry then a few thin coats of hammerite smooth, followed by a couple of coats of laquer - did all five wheels for about £20 and they looked fine afterwards and didn't suffer from staining.
Easier if you have a set of wheels to put on the car, then you can do them all at the same time!

If anything I quite fancy having a go myself, it will help keep me busy in the evenings whilst I'm still struggling with quitting smoking! Easier if you have a set of wheels to put on the car, then you can do them all at the same time!
Still wanted them acid dipped to clean them up though as sanding all 4 sounds horrific.
I have just had 4 newish wheels re-furbed (after the AA damaged all 4 of them recovering the car a few months ago). I had all 4 stripped and re-painted for £200 by Warfield Wheels near Bracknell (077 3882 7980). Slightly iffy location but the chap did an excellent job, in fact I am happier with the new finish than the original!
While mine was in he was also in the process of re-furbing a huge set of alloys on a 911 GT and doing a bloody good job on them! He also repairs a lot of the local dealers alloys if the new cars are delivered with them damaged. Apparently he recently 'fixed' 6 cars from Audi Slough when the transporter driver hit the curb (repeatedly) while offloading the brand new cars from the trailer!
