Discussion
Not sure if this has been discussed on here before, but Ford are producing 650 of these. How it's worth £16.8k is anyones guess!!

you'd have to really really not want to look like a girl to buy this over a cooper s (or really not want to risk a breakdown and choose it over an RS clio).
it'd be a nice car and worth the money if it had a 1600 turbo...

Stereotype stripes, gash wheels and a shocking price tag.
the thing is other than painting them white there's not even anything 'novel' about the wheels. they should have stuck something a bit O.Z.ish on at least.Stereotype stripes, gash wheels and a shocking price tag.
The completely standard 1.6 TDCI Zetec S is £16400. Thats without the 'Street Pack' which gives the 17" wheels etc.
I've just received one as a company car.
The comfort from the seats is very very good, the ride is also very good and handles reasonably well. It is also built very well compared to previous fords I have had the displeasure of being in.
The diesel engine is slow but I have been averaging 74mpg which is good considering I have had it 3 weeks and done 3000 miles.
I would never spend £16400 on a fiesta if it was my own money.
Ford prices are crazy, the cheapest diesel focus is £18000 and the cheapest diesel mondeo is £20000.
The quality of the product has increased massively. Which is probably why the prices are so high but the stigma will always be there.

dont believe everything that screen in the dash tells you, 74mpg is mega.I've just received one as a company car.

There are massive discounts to be had off the rrp. I have heard a rumour though that Fords pricing structure may be changing later in the year with thousands taken off the rrp and no discounts being given.
Eg. The Fiesta at £16k rrp which you could probably pay £12k for (with minimal haggling) would simply be priced at £12k moving forward.
Also there won't be a 3 door version of the new Focus just the 5 door. A new 3 door car will be coming to challenge the Scirocco
on the pricing strategy i think it would help a lot. i genuinely believe that a lot of the reason why people have gone to the german brands is partially the acknowledged perceived quality but also partially because people feel as though all punters are equally ripped off. with a ford/vauxhall/all the others it's never very pleasant not knowing what 'the right price' is. to a certain extent i think this plus the long warrantys etc help the korens..

For example, filled the car up yesterday.
Did 370 miles.
Filled up £27 when I got home, which was about 22 litre from memory.
22 litres is 5 Gallon (pretty much)
370 / 5 gallon = 74mpg bang on.
Think the screen says 76 mpg so a little bit out.
I'll point out that you do have to drive like an absolute granny to get anywhere near Fords figures, that 370 miles including lots of hills around merthyr and the brecons so could have potentially been better.
74mpg is achieved by slip streaming trucks which is a necessary evil when you only get 7p per mile expenses.
Driving at 70mph you will be just over 60mpg in the 1.6TDCI fiesta despite ford claiming 80mpg Extra Urban and 60mpg Urban, 70mpg Combined. I think they pluck the figures from a hat.
