Due to a Cherbourg ferry deadline on our unscheduled drive from Malaga....volcanic ash....we broke a few speedlimits.
The Spanish speed enforcement agency have sent us a rather splendid photo of our hire cars rapidly vanishing rear number plate...with a request for 100Euros.

Does anyone know what is the position on these continental speed tickets...do I have to pay it???
If I don't pay what might be the consequences...??

Cheers

Paul.

If it's a hire car, how did they get your address?

Usually any fines sent to a hire car company are simply paid and then charged to your credit card (as that's what you signed in the hire agreement).

Avis took my address from my driving license when we hired it...I would hope they don't pay third party fines without my authorisation.

Just pay it. You got caught breaking the law and have to face the consequences. Better than getting arrested next time you cross the border into Spain.

Chances are you've already authorised it from when you signed the rental agreement.

My advice too. I had unpaid speeding tickets in Holland and was stopped and detained by Schipol immigration for 2 hours then told to pay the fines with additional costs on top for late payment.

As echoed I would just pay it, for the sake of £90 odd quid it will save some potential headaches.

They automatically bill damage. They forward on fines to the person responsible for the car at the time of hire for them to deal with as they are obliged to if requested by the Speed Gestapo Espanol.
