BMW Sauber Ferrari?

This may have been covered in the past somewhere.
I'm curious about the BMW Sauber team this year.
Does anyone else find it a bit strange that he BMW Sauber team are using 'Ferrari' engines? Couple questions arise from this;
1)Why does the team still carry the BMW tag? Is it still affiliated with BMW at all?
2)If they are affiliated with BMW, why the use of another car manufacturer's engine? Couldn't BMW supply any?
Surely that is also a bit of a marketing blunder! I can't see how BMW are benefiting from this.

Ex BMW works team, BMW pulled out, Peter Sauber bought the team back and got Ferrari engines. Hasnt yet got around to changing the name (I think its a bit of an arduous process and he doesn't seem overly bother with the name at the moment... spending more time trying to find a sponsor no doubt).I'm curious about the BMW Sauber team this year.

I think he has said eventually it will be put right, but for now it remains BMW Sauber Ferrari.
I believe that the F1 Team Owners need to vote in agreement regarding a name change and I do not think that Peter Sauber has forced this to the top of the agenda alongside tyre choices and engine sizes? It will happen but the papework required by the FIA, FOTA etc no doubt takes ages and is more than complex.

That could explain it.It's a bit ridiculous though isn't it. I mean, you'd have thought it was a simple matter of not referrinf to them as BMW Sauber anymore. Even if it 'technically' is in name only, I'm sure BMW wouldn't mind if they just decided not to put BMW at the front.
As I mentioned, if I'm BMW, I'd rather not have my name associated with a team that uses a rival car manufacturer's engine.

I think its part of the contract that it retains BMW in the name for this season

I guess the point I'm trying to make is that it seems strange that a major Car manufacturer like BMW would have itself assosciated with a team that utilises one of it's competitors engines. Afterall, the whole point of being associated with the sport is that YOUR brand gets recognition for achievement, and hopefully your road car's reputation will increase as a result of that......but doesn't say much about the BMW brand if they can't eeven come up with an engine of theirr own
Now, I know that it's really Sauber now, and only carries the BMW in name only. But, average Joe public with only a slight interest in the sport might not know this.
Not a major issue by any means....I just find it a bit strangee in this day and agee wwhere Brand image is everything to big companies.

I think you'll find it's the fact that Peter Sauber took over the BMW-Sauber team and has to use the team name that is entered into that particular season's championship, I don't think he could change it. I think it's also to do with being allowed the prize money and travel money the team earned the previous season too.
He can add a sponsor to the name (like Vodafone McLaren-Mercedes etc) but can't actually change the team name. I should think it will be back to being 'Sauber' next year.
Wasn't this the same reason that Manor held off announcing their 'official' name until the Virgin deal had been done, so the team name reads the sponsor-friendly version?
