Dunlop SP Sport Maxx

New top of the range rubber from Dunlop

Dunlop Tyres have launched a new tyre specifically aimed at drivers of performance cars.

The SP Sport Maxx is available in sizes to suit some more extreme wheel/tyre combinations right down to 30 profile and up to 22 inches in diameter.

Dunlop's unique take on the tyre scene is what they call their Multi Tread Radius which is designed to ensure that "more of the tyre is in contact with more of the road more of the time. " That bigger contact patch improves dry weather handling and helps when making the transition into cornering.

Taking its experience from German Touring Cars the boffins at Dunlop have come up with a compound that's designed to give a low rolling resistance yet helps with grip when accelerating or decelerating.

It was nice to meet PetrolTed at the press launch. Hope you had as much fun at Ascari race resort as I had.

So I click on the link to get more information on the tyres...like maybe if they are going to produce a size to fit my car.

Having search diligently in their products section both under car tyres and motorsport there appears to be no mention of "SP Sport Maxx" anywhere. The news section has no mention either...the last news item being in January.

What a bunch of useless idiots!

Hmmm, interesting. Their SP9000 has a tread similar to the bridgey S02 and now this one looks a bit like the S03, will it be as controversial? Probably not as no one fits them to their tivvers

Might be wort a try though, I've got SP9000s on my Elise and they're stonking good tyres.

Cheers,
Rob

yes they do look abit like the old SO2's.

Im going to give the SP Sport 9000 a go in a few weeks time on the Griff, they make a Z rated 15inch front, which is a bit of a relief after finding out that S03's dont come with a Z speed rating for the front.

How about Toyos? Toyo have a shed full of them - get your dealer to call and they will ship specially. I've got Z rated 15s on the front now with Toyos on the back too. Great tyres, feel very much like SO2s, maybe grippier (but maybe my old tyres were shagged )

Likewise, I have Dunlop SP9000 on my Elise, and much prefer them over the P Zero. Maybe not as ultimately quick in the dry,but more supple, less likely to be upset by B road bumps, more confidence inspiring and 100% better in the wet.

Toyo RA1's for track days rock!!! Very sticky tread depth of 8mm from new tyres, also suitable for light rain. I beleive the T1-S are very good all round tyres too.
