Why do people cheat?

I'm sure there are a lot of people on here that have experience of cheating or being cheated on. After all this rubbish with Tiger Woods and Mark from Take That claiming to be addicted to sex, but effectively just cheating. Why do people do it?
There seems to be be loads of people on Plenty of Fish that put that they just want to chat/email - is this just another form of cheating or if it's just online does it not count?
Also interested to know, those people that look at porn, do your other halves know? If not, why not?

I've not been cheated on, but know lots of people doing the cheating or being cheated on. For some reason it seems common practice in the emergency services.
Different reasons for different people, likewise what constitutes cheating is different for everyone. As someone that maks a living chatting to people, some of who admit that they are married, I may have a slightly skewed perception of it all.
Prior to getting into this line of work, you could say I cheated on my then husband, but at that point the marriage was all over bar the shouting, I was just putting up with it, thinking that I had no other choice (the mental abuse had taken it's toll by then and I was totally lacking in self confidence etc) the other party came along and it kind of opened my eyes to the fact that I didn't have to stay.

Simply because you don't care about the other person enough.
There's been generally 2 types of people to cheat that I know. One is the type that just goes for what they want and it's obvious they'll just bounce people. The other is someone who can't break up with the person they're with because it'll hurt them, but they want to move on. So don't break up with the other person and carry on both until somehow the first person finds out.
All of them come down to the reason of not caring about the other person. I guess there's physical cheating which is obvious, and there's flirting etc, which is cheating emotionally. Generally someone only gets into this because they're not being satisfied by the other person.
I'm in the boat that I won't cheat on someone - if something's wrong then try and fix it, if you can't then break up - don't just mess around.

If I really wanted to shag someone else then I would end the relationship that I am currently in - which would clearly be expensive, so the shag better be fantastic! But I don't see the point. If you are unhappy with the person that you are with then do something about it. Although its not quite as simple as saying that its the cowards way out, but in my mind it is.
Oh, and I never did get the excuse of 'it just happened' - yeah right, like the whole clothes, fore-play and intercourse thing happened by just nudging into each other.... phah, couldn't resist and thought you wouldn't get caught more like it.

I enjoy reading pistonheads and get a lot of information from it, both regarding my car and general information such as DIY and holiday etc. I also try and give advice on health matters as I feel I'm giving something back. I don't contribute to the car threads as I tend to use the more specific forums for that.There is no ex on here, well, not that I know of!
