Clicked on "What's New"... as per usual, scrolled down... to get a "Next page" link..!

Like to be able to scroll down to see how much I've missed and wheelie up and down to see what catches my eye. With the "next page", makes it very slow to surf.

Don't like it.....back to the scroll up and down long list please.

Sorry Ted, I am sure there are technical reasons for trying this new system, but I'd like to be able to see what is new since 10am this morning the last time I checked in. With this new feture this will take forever, not even able to skip to say 10 pages ago (currently an entire page is only about 15 minutes!)

cheers

Arrrrggh...its on every page.

Sorry Ted....HATE IT, imho. I'd rather wait longer for the whole list to load then scan through a long list, that wait a short amount of time for a short list, only to have to keep clicking NEXT PAGE over and over again.

A few PH members no doubt have the gassing station loaded at work. It is very handy to be able to quickly scan the long list, to see the threads that you find most interesting for the day. When deciding if there is something new to read/post this wants to be done quickly for obvious reasons!

Admit to using the what's new for 3 hours the most. Reckon that having a big list that was new posts for 1 hour would be useful. If updated twice an hour then anything missed the first time would hopefully get caught.

Is this why the site has been running slowly since its spritely pace displayed 1st thing this morning..?

Cheers,
Matt.

Ok, no problem. I've extended the page size to 100 posts for now and can extend it further if necessary.

Nope, that's because at lunchtimes there are around 1200 concurrent users compared to around 600 a year ago.

Sorry Ted, have to agree with everybody here on this one. By the time I’ve read the posts on a page and click next page there are so many posts been added at the beginning I get the same page back again. One long list was better I knew where I was and could scroll up and down rather than the list keep changing under me .

Can it be made as a user preference?

Ted, I'd like to add my disappointment to this thread too.
The split page makes browsing the forums uncomfortable.

What do you think to make the split page default, and give an option in the prefs to turn it to the old-style list?

Only the logged-in GS-adicts would turn it on, but everybody would have the possibility to do so (pc, fairness and all that)

Ted how about "whats new" = 3 hours back or 100 per page

"last 12 hours" goes back to 12 hours on one page

Maybe restrict the page size to time rather than number of posts. Last 24 hours on first page. That could be rather complex though.
