Anybody have any recommendations for a weapons grade device to silently scare dogs away? We're moving to a country plagued with indifferent dog owners, who let their dogs run loose and crap/bite/snarl hither and yon, so I want something to ward them off if they come sniffing too close while we're out walking the streets.

Something proven, quality, powerful, a brutal device, 'shock and awe' stuff, that will leave me in no doubt as to whether I pressed the correct button when the moment of truth arrives. biggrin I want to see dogs sprinting away, with the front paws over their ears.

I found the best approach when in Thailand was bend down and pretend to pick up a rock then raise an arm as if about to throw said imaginary rock at said rabid dog.

Worked every time for me and there were some vicious scanky dogs around where I stayed.

Dunno if that works where you are going, but it never ever ever ever failed for me in the back streets of Bangkok, Ayutthayah or Nakhon Pathom.

Are you moving back to Asia then King Herald ? (think thats where you were before ?)

Just by a Tazzer off the streets, saw loads in Thailand for sale - that would sort the dogs out.

Ha ha.You sound rabid with enthusiasm about this!

Thing is, some dogs could even turn on you if it detects that you're a threat.

Your actions are likely to encourage being bitten judging your approach and thinking.

If you're looking for an ultimate deterrent you may be as well to get a tazar as already suggested. Local laws etc. depending.

The product I linked to is for UK markets hence the PC comments I would say.

I have used that product on a massive mastiff that wanted my blood that made feck all difference! In the end a 5 bar gate was my saviour winkLess aggressive dogs may respond.

Good luck, and avoid confrontation at all costs would be my best advice.

In the Philippines the dogs seem to enjoy sneaking around nonchalantly and suddenly running up behind you, nipping at your ankles, then running off again. I'd like something I can just point and squirt, and hit the mangy cur with a stream of bone dissolving hypersonics. biggrin

And the very worst type is the dog that is growling bloodthirstily at you, teeth bared, hackles raised, and the smiling owner, on the safe side of the fence, assuring you 'he doesn't bite, just ignore him'. Cretin!! If I KNEW he didn't bite I'd come in there and beat you to pulp for having such a ridiculous dog not under control!!!

I may try the stuff in the ad anyway. if I can work out a way to hand carry it to the PI via the USA. scratchchin

Good luck, and post pictures if you can please as you deal with the local hyenas.

That spray in my link has two pieces that could be detached from each other lessening the risk of accidental activation or making it look too suspect. wink

All the best to you.

Yes mate, we're off back to the Philippines to live. The wife and daughter fly tomorrow, and I go offshore Wednesday, and will head over to the PI next time I get off work.

Our house is rented out, nearly, and all our stuff went away in a container a few days ago.

Part of me says that 50 years of age is a bit too old to move countries yet again, but part of says 'hell yes, go have another adventure'. biggrin
