GEAR LINKAGE , HOW DO I GET TO IT ? PHOTO ANYONE ?

How do i get to Oil/Grease the Gear linkage ? As the change has got much stiffer over the last few days , suspect it needs re greasing.

If you can get the car in the air I'd do it from underneath. You won't see anything but if you have nerves in your fingertips you should be able to feel your way around. Pic's in Steve Heath's book. There's not much to the linkeage other than a small spherical bearing and a couple of pivot bolts; I'd be surprised if they'd cause a stiff feeling; however, some say otherwise.

2Munkys, thanks for your reply. I need to get in with either an oil can or grease gun, wondering if enough clearance. How about with the Centre Console lifted ?

Not looked in S.Hs book , but it may be ? my car that is pictured.

as Bruce says, but if you want the hassle then remove the gearnob, slacken the handbrake right off, and remove the whale tail, then take out the cover and you`ll have a good view of the link arm, there shouldn`t be too much that can cause problems there though, but for piece of mind why not have a look?

Perfect photo, Thank you , thats just what i needed to see . I think that it would really help if i can re oil or grease those links. Not looking forward to trying to lift the Centre Console and trying to get to the Handbrake adjuster.

Front wheel bearing sounds like a nitemare job to do. Picking up new bearings later today .

slightly off topic (sorry OP!), but does any one know if you can get to the speedo sensor (on an early Griff) from that route?

it looks a little too cosy!

Not sure when it was last changed, been unused/garaged for nearly 3 years but its on the list of to dos !!!

It's a common cause of slow/notchy changes

I'd say the picture you posted was of a T5 gearbox/remote. The bolts holding the remote together pass through plastic sleeves, and there are plastic washers involved too, as well as a plastic sphere which the gear lever pushes into. All of the plastic parts available from http://www.racetechdirect.co.uk (well they were last year when I bought them). There are no grease points as such. Be careful which way round you put the bolts as it is possible for them to foul the handbrake lever (or is it the switch) when going onto 5th/reverse.
