At the Shell garage while waiting to pay for petrol.

Glanced down and noticed the guy in front of me had a holstered gun on his left hip.

Took a second look and saw that he was an armed BiB, kevlar waistcoat, the lot.

Must admit, I felt slightly uneasy.

Can't they leave them in the car locked up while buying sweeties?

What if I'd had one of my kids with me they tried to grab it.

Then what would have happened?

Really? It is that serious for you? Don't ever travel to the US then.

It may be an idea that you teach your kids not to touch things that belong to other people if you are worried they might try and nick a gun from a holster.

At a guess you'd have pulled the kid back or the copper would say "fk off you little bd" and "oi mate why the feck is your kid out of your car at a petrol station, there are cars coming back and forth and you let your kid out!!"

Or something like that.

Think armed response vehicles have built-in gun safe or something like that.

Seen armed police forces throught out the europe for decades now - it's no big deal really. Normally sporting rifles too, not just handguns.

At least he wasn't using the gun to pay for his petrol.

You obviously don't work on a military base either.
You take it for granted people are walking around with semi automatics.

In other news, a man walked a dog down the street. Passers by were horrified at the potential for harm to children.

I get what you're saying

but

I'd rather he had it with him than had to run back to the car, unlock it and get the pistol out of a locker then run back to get shot by the creep holding us all up at the petrol station

These blokes are trained not to let kids wanting to play cause any trouble for them

I had one of those "oh gor blimey , that's nice can I play with it" moments when I saw my first copper at the Birmingham Airport with his machine gun years ago

Felt quite embarassed after the moment passed, luckily I did'nt ask...

Why did you feel uneasy seeing a gun? It's a gun. It wasn't pointed at you. It's not like he was carrying something offensive.

Leaving the gun in the car wouldn't be sensible really would it?

If one of your kids had tried to grab it I doubt they'd have even moved it in the holster. These guys are quite well trained you know.....

1. I think the guy should have left it in his car safe locked up.

2. I didn't have my kids with me - thanks for asking.

3. We don't have armed Police routinely strutting around the UK yet. I don't have any problem with them in Airports etc. but I don't want to see a gun while I'm paying for petrol.

Make sure your kids grow up with a healthy respect (read 'hatred') of the rozzers and they will either stay well clear Dirty Harry's Weapon (oooeerr) or at least if he does grab it, he'll pop a cap in his ass so you can make your escape.

Dont forget your V power points tumblers though, they are worth a bomb laugh

Well actually, yes, we do.

You're one of those who loves to be outraged just for the sake of being outraged, aren't you? You must wake up each morning and think "Right, what can I get mad about today?!?!"

What's the problem?
