At the start of January I was on a roundabout and someone drove into the left side of my car. Car fixed. But the other side is still disputing the claim despite having made a statement saying he pulled out when blinded by sun.

His insurance co have refused to respond to mine. The final response date is end of the month - convieniently the same day my policy is up for renewal. If no response I understand legal action will be taken at this point and until resolved I am treated as if at fault.

My quote for renewal is more than double what it was before. I have been told I cannot go elsewhere until the claim is resolved and this could take years. Is this really correct?

Hi

Firstly when your policy comes up for renewal you can change to any insurer.

Secondly yes claims can sometimes take years, my only advice is to stick to the truth and remember that your insurance company represents you so tell them what you want, not what they want.

Until the claim is resolved your premiums will be high. Shop around at renewal.

Being blinded by the sun isn't a defence he's still neglegent and liable, you can instruct solicitors to recover any increase in premium in the interim whilst it's being sorted
