Opening external links in new browser?

Would it be possible for all external links on the PH forum to open in a new window? It's annoying when you click on someones web page in their profile, only to realise it's garbage, so you close it, and then realise you've lost PH too.

Have you not got Firefox/IE?

I'm sure either of them tabbed browsing would suit what you want.

On your mouse click the link with the rollerball (On 90% of mouses) it'll open the link in a new tab.. Then just close said tab.

I'm using IE8. Although I thought Firefox is good, I found that it has some compatibility areas which meant I couldn't bin IE. I know that you can 'open in new window', but I would have thought that it would be better to have a new window opened by default, as I think people would generally only click on the external forum links out of a brief curiosity, while wanting to maintain their PH page. Perhaps I shouldn't be so nosey.

Edit: I just clicked on the web site in your profile Jonny, and it opens in a new window, yet some others don't seem to do that, and I think links like yours are the better option.

I'm sure, even in IE8 (I haven't used IE since years ago) that you must be able to change in settings that links are opened in a new window?

The links in the profiles all specify that they should open in a new tab/page.

Either it's IE8 doing something "clever" (as usual), or there was something unusual about the link you clicked. If you spot one that it doing it then please post the link and I'll take a look.

Well it did open in the same window till about a week ago when we changed it, so it could be just from before that and we pre-empted your request
