Well ... im 19 years old and have jsut brought myself a toyota mr2, before i brought the car i checked the insurance and found it was affordable, 3 weeks later i brought the car and checked the insurance and turns out its gone up to some stupid price, but when i searched on confused.com i found a quote for around £700 which is very very cheap, when i rang them to purchase the insurance i was told "its a technical glitch"

just wondering where do i stand, do they have to sell it to me for the advertised price or what ?

Thanks

You are, what us lawyers would call, fooked.

Hard luck pal. Start saving.

(I take it you don't actually want a technical answer as to why you are, as I said, fooked, otherwise this would've been posted in Speed, Plod, Law section)

Sell it and buy something cheaper to insure

The quotes are usually valid for a month. Check with insurer.

I really wouldn't be suprised if theres some small print somewhere smile

Unfortunately, an MR2 at 19 must have had you wondering how it was so cheap? frown

Not a lot I am afraid, you could always hassle the insurer and hope that they would honour it, but it's a slim chance.

There is no obligation on them to sell you the policy at the price you saw I am afraid.

Just leave the insurance, at worst it will be a few points and a small fine.

Calm down dear, I was only joking. Just insure it with your mum or dad as the main driver wink

If I'm reading this correctly, you got a variety of quotes for an MR2 (you weren't silly enough to base your whole purchase on one abnormally low glitch quote, right?!) found them affordable, and so went out 3 weeks later and bought said MR2. Then when you came to insure it 3 weeks later all the previously affordable prices have gone up so much that you can't afford the insurance at all?!

Does anyone here have any idea what could have caused this?

Should have bought it online instead of phoning them. Probably would have honoured it regardless of said "glitch".

9/10 policies I've tried in the same vein (I'm 19 too) have always said oops, error/change to online policy, your new price is £4521.40 - there's no getting away from it. If you're getting quotes around the £2-3000 region, that's what you should be paying. Bear in mind that any quote that's TPFT and is over £5000 is automatically voided. Someone told me it was because there was a big pressure on the government a few years ago to stop the silly pricing of insurance for younger chaps. So, they just put a blanket cap at £5000 on TPFT and left it at that. Typical, eh.

I agree with this. If you hadn't of phoned them, they may have never noticed their glitch; you would have paid your £700 and been insured. Maybe not though.
