VX220 or elise?
Discussion
Me and the OH have finally decided on a car, that has now turned in to two cars... one of which is decided on an RS 172, but the other is causing more of a problem.
I'm sure this has been asked many a time, but I really can't see a distinct difference between them...
Obviously they're pretty similar, both being based on the same chassis, but is there anyone who has driven both that could point me in the right direction?
You seem to be able to pick up relatively 'more' vauxhall for your money, owing to it's lesser name i don't doubt.
Help please!

Depends all on how you like power delivery 2.2 na VX220 150bhp/150lbs doesn't rev much over 6250rpm, pulls quite hard from 2700rpm
Elise toyota 140 well slower all round
Elise toyota 190 needs loads of revs but is a bit quicker when its in the zone.
VX220 turbo - well it has a turbo so drives differently thant hte n/a cars.
I love my 2.2 VX220, thought it a much better car for the money than the Elise.

The VX220 is softer than the Elise, not quite as sharp to drive (although still sharper than just about anything else on the road). It's a little heavier, has a few luxuries like an airbag, a brake servo and ABS which the Elise lacks. The Elise suffers from the well documented head gasket failure problems which cost about 500 quid to get fixed, but is considerably more fuel efficient. The VX220 is much cheaper to insure, for some reason.
Really it's a matter of personal preference. With an Elise, you inevitably pay a bit for the badge, which is daft because really they are both Lotuses.
A lot of the handling difference can be made up by fitting Elise sized wheels to the VX220 (the VX220 VXR already comes with Elise sized wheels).
That's all assuming you mean a K-series based Elise. The Toyota powered cars are a little different again.
Try hunting around on the Elise subsection. This question comes up all the time. Best advice is to drive as many variants of each as you can, and see which you think is best and/or best value for your driving style and preferences. They are both very good cars.

The VX220 isn't heavier than a toyota Elise its 830kg, significantly lighter than the current offerings from Lotus all over 900kg now I understand.Really it's a matter of personal preference. With an Elise, you inevitably pay a bit for the badge, which is daft because really they are both Lotuses.

When comparing VX220 and Elise its got the be compared to a Series 2 Elise really as thats what it is with different fittings. A VX is essentially a series 2 short tail roof Elise with different clams and engine, gear box (which is much nicer and precise than the toyota or K series) everything else is shared.
Price wise the cheapest VX220s are more similar to an S1, but the S1 is a totally different car. Then you may as well ask series one or two elise?
