Just wondering?

Someone jokingly suggested I spray the MX5 up in matte black, but I'm not sold on the idea

The primary benefit of matte is its better friction properties, enabling you to brake later with less need for cadence clutching...

it will probably make the car 10% faster and 15% more economical due to improved aerodynamics. Based on a principle first invented by sharks over 400 million years ago and later adopted by olympic swimmers, the matt surface traps a layer of air(water for sharks and swimmers) immediately adjacent to it and so reduces drag as the car travels.

The effect of this paint finish should not be underestimated and it may be neccesary to add a large rear wing to aid stability at the increased speed the car will be capable of. As a safety feature to allow other road users to spot your matt black mx5 travelling at unfeasibly high speed some of those overly bright daytime running lights (popularised by Audi and other premium german brands) although with this addition you run the risk of making your car look a little chavvy
