Maybach Coupe To Cost £500k+

Coachbuilt limited edition takes a pot-shot at the Phantom Coupe

Seekers of splendid ostentation will soon have another option to that Phantom Coupe they've been considering, in the shape of this coachbuilt Maybach 57S with two doors and a rakish new profile.

The renderings shown here have been produced by German firm Xenatec, which is pledging to build up to 100 copies of its Maybach Coupe for sale to anyone with a big enough garage and over half a million quid in the bank.

According to reports from Germany, the new Coupe is the same length overall as the regular limo version, but the track has been widened and the roof lowered. The B-pillars have also been moved aft to make way for even longer doors.

Power will come from the standard Maybach's 612hp 6-litre twin turbo V12, which will be unmolested although at this level in the market such niceties tend to be at the whim of the individual owners.

Xenatec will build the cars at its factory in Weinsberg, which we're told is near the Maybach plant at Sindelfingen.

According to reports from Germany, M-B has been closely involved with the project with unconfirmed suggestions that Gorden Wagener, the brand design chief, has personally had a hand in the styling of the new roof sections.

Desperate! Maybach is a brand without a certain future. No plans for new models, old models not selling in the current austere climate, quick stick a different body on it to shift a few models to mad collectors....

And its very vulgar. Get a RR drop top, much nicer and classier.

Obviously sketches can be deceiving but it looks like it's trying too hard and has no sense of humour.
A bit like some Pistonheads members. hehe (Joke!!)

If they can shift them for half a mill, then Cadillac should start making the 16 concept for a similar price. At least that had 1000hp.

Coming soon to a premiership football training ground near you in gloss white or matte/satin/frozen black (sic) with black wheels.

Utterly tasteless

Surely the whole point of a Maybach is to be driven in?

Anyone who would choose this over the Ghost is mad.

I actually quite like it. It looks way better than the saloon, and I like the fact that it's even bigger. I think they should have made an effort to squeeze a few more horses out though, ala Brabus with 730 odd bhp. Then it would be totally mad!

the ghost is hardly the car to be driven in though is it, thats the phantom, the ghost is the one you're meant to drive yourself.

I wouldn't worry too much about the £500k price tag. They'll be avilable for less than £100k in a couple of years.

Am I the only one who thinks it looks rather a lot like the Mercedes CL? As in practically identical.
