Speed restrictions on M1 in the East Midlands lifted
Discussion
Are they definately not rigged up yet, the speed cameras? I went to Nottingham last week and went flying down at 85-90 and only realised on the way back that people were slowing down at the gantries and there were markings on the motorway and massive speed camera signs! I've been through again at NSL and had a look at the backs of the display screens and can't see any cameras mounted only the traffic management sensors. I'm worried sick that I could possibly have racked up 9 or 12 points on a 70 mile round trip! Can anyone confirm if the cameras are in use? People were flying through but that doesn't mean they're not working! Any info would be appreciated.

Nah, no camera's on the gantries yet.Plus you can only be done once for multiple offences of speeding if you claim (and it's possible to) not to have dropped below the speed limit in between the recorded offences.

Yay!
But they're putting in a gazillion speed cameras to enforce the variable speed limits
variable speed limit works well at controlling the traffic on the M42

They might, if the morons who control them get to understand the impact of 60 to 40 to 20 mph speed limits on consequitive gantries, and how infuriating it is for drivers who can see both a 20mph then a NSL sign straight after it with no obvious reason for it.
I'm sure they can be great for controlling the flow of traffic, but with proper management which the M42 team really haven't got to grips with.
