Searching around for a new car, new job role means the current car is going to be more and more unsuitable as time goes on, so looking for something a bit more tax friendly.

Have narrowed down choice to two cars, one being a light blue, the other a slate grey. Spec and price are pretty much identical so not much in it. Suddenly thought that I have never put colour as one of my deciding factors on any car purchase I have made in the past.

Other than an "unsuitable" colour for the car in question, has colour ever been the deciding factor in the purchase?

It's one of my highest priorities, although i'd probably have a list of acceptable colours, and absolute no-nos, but still, i'd rather wait until i'm entirely happy before committing to anything.

I guess you are in a zone with 2 acceptable colours, but i would say the wrong choice could be a difference of thousands in certain circumstances.

I think it is an important aspect when you're choosing a new car, it's what you have to live with on a daily basis. I'll risk the spoilt brat comments and say my dad bought my car for me, the colour wouldn't have been my choice, and it is a bit of a bugbear.

Definitely an important factor, certain colours suit certain cars, and I think every specific make/model of car has a colour it looks best in.

It depends on the car. When I was searching for my M3 I wanted the car and the best one I could find. I really wanted a white one but red was my next choice.

If it was a run of the mill car then I'd get the colour I wanted.

It all depends on the car. I dont like white cars that much, but love the Honda Integra Type R DC5 in championship white. It all depends on what colour suits the car.

Depends on A) the car and B) whtehr its a snotter to do the job or something you want to cruise and enjoy.

If its the former then it doesnt matter at all, just look at the mechanicals and ignore the rest. If its the latter then yes it does.

What is the car and whats it for?

It does factor in to an extent but if the car was perfect in every other way then I could live with it providing it wasn't completely ridiculous.

In fact, I am living with it because I wasn't a fan of the colour of my current car but I've had it for seven years now smile

This is a tough one. I prefer cars in certain colours, but if you;re on a budget, you often get a "non ideal" colour, because you;re chasing condition. I was really after a Lapis blue car, but ended up with more common silver. 1 owner and 28k miles was worth the swap.

However, the next jump will put much more of a dent on us financially - so will be black, dark blue, or at a push gunmetal grey =)

I generally don't care what colour mine are but I did once turn down what was otherwise a good deal on the basis of colour - VW's Memory Red (basically metallic pink).

Perversley, if I had the money for a 964RS, I'm one of the (few?) people who'd chose one in Rubystone...

Yes, very important to me,

I did not get a C30 R Design as my daily driver as I wanted a white car and thought it looked like a Halfords special in white - my Leon FR looked great in white smile

Having had one I wouldn't have another black car thru choice and it would have to be a great deal to make me buy one.

Equally when I bought my first 911 I only wanted Seal Grey, no other colour would do....

Price comes first - All other things being equal the best value car will be chosen first.
When looking for an MX-5 I wanted a blue one but after seeing a good value silver one I went for that instead.

Maroon and beige would have to be great value to make me buy them... But never say never!

It's important enough - from what I understand the difference in price between a light blue MINI and a black one can be quite marked.

Unfortunately cash was king when I was buying, so I couldn't afford to choose my ideal colour (although because of the type of car I bought, it looked cack in all colours anyway).

I'd love an Elise/Exige in chrome orange or isotope green, but that would look abysmal on a family hack.

I ended up with a metallic mid-red colour (not bright, not rich, just mediocre) and it's okay.

Although I've been looking at MX5's idly and it would have to be an amazing deal for me to buy an MX5 in racing bronze - yuk!
