Hi all,

straight to the point, is there a 'tard trying to steal bits from under my car? If not, what else could be causing this, and if so what can I do to stop it. The car is probably only worth just over 1K, so not worth installing CCTV or a noisy alarm. I know its not an expensive or desirable car, but its all i've got, and I will be screwed if something happens to it.

So here is the storey. A few days ago I walk up to my car and notice a dent on the bottom peice of body work, as if someone has put a jack in the wrong place and tried to lift the car. I think its very strange, but maybe it was there when I bought the car (over a year ago) and I noticed. Anyway, I show it to my friend to see what he thinks, and he agreed with the probabal cause. I think to myself that I probably just didn't notice for a year and a bit, and forget it.

Today, I go to my car, and yet again there is another dent, same size and shape towards the front of the car rather than in the middle, on the same side. This was definatley not here last week, as my friend and I would have definately noticed it when we were checking out the first dent. Also, on the other side of the car there are two small dents like the ones next to the big dent in this photo, but no big one.

What would you do? Is it worth letting the police know?

Thoughts and advice would be much appreciated, thanks in advance guys...

Nope, I have standard Fiat alloys that have seen better days.. which is why i'm so puzzled!

Fork lift would have caused both dents at once non?

EDIT: crappy tyres on the back that were on the car when I bought it (at least 15,000 miles old)

Pretty much brand new toyo proxes CF1's on the front.. nothing special.

Maybe, but if that is it, they haven't got it yet! The car would still lift if you had the jack in a place to do that damage right?

No, its flats, in a nice cul-de-sac with allocated parking. All frienldy, fairly elderldy neigbours. Its unlikelt to happen at work as a park in a bust gym car park.

If I were you I'd go for a 3 stage approach. You might need to get a mate to help you

1. Move car to outside your flat
2. Drink beer in lounge with lights off
3. Jump anyone that goes near the car

Easy and fun!

Secondary coil rigged to the central locking solinoid? As soon as you lock the car it's live with 10,000 Volts. Kills any birds that land on your car as well sadly.

I think i'd kill myself tryng to set this up!

Any thought on anything it could be rather than some chav/pikey/general ccensorednt trying to thieve parts from the car? Its bewildering becuase there is nothing of any real value!

The first, round one could be the result of a prang with a kerb or something in the past. The ones in your second photos however have definite flat tops to them as if someone has tried to jack it up using a poorly positioned scissor jack.

What do you mean, sadly? Free breakfast!

Seems a strange thing to happen, they might have been trying to cut the handbrake cable to push it onto a trailer, a lot of cars are stolen to order, but something in that price range surely puts it out of the equation?

As for sitting in the lounge with the lights off, I would be too hammered to move by the time anything happened!
