Fuel pump on priming/whirring when ignition turned on

My Tuscan did this earlier when I tried to start it, looked around checked boot cut off was ok, removed bonnet to see where the fuel pump is, still don't have a clue on that one, was about to check the fuse, then tried the car again and it was fine, so turned ignition on/off a few more times, drove home, turned the car off, turned it on again and it was fine, any ideas what it could be at all?.

I can't tell you the reason of the whirring.
The fuel pump is mounted under the car behind the diff, easily recognized

Sorry, I was very tired last night and looking at it now my post doesn't make sense, what I meant was the fuel pump wasn't priming/whirring to life when the ignition was turned on, car would crank but not start, then the car was fine when I tried it again, fuel pump getting stuck or dodgy relay at a guess?

Re-set the immob? sometimes gets confused. Needs the power dropping off and replacing.

The imobilizer seemed to be disarming fine, but it might need resetting I'm not sure, the car wasn't starting, called breakdown people the guy came out, we took the bonnet off to have a look etc and he didn't even touch anything, tried the car again and it was fine, really odd.

I had a similar problem last year. The pump would not prime, although I did the usual procedure, and even reset the switch at the boot, but nothing happened. I remember it was a Friday evening and wanted to take the car for a drive, but couldnt. Then, on Saturday, tried again, and it started fine.

It was running without problems after that, and 2 months later took the car for the annual service. When I went to pick it up, the fuel pump started playing up again.. Couldn't drive the car, it seemed like the immobiliser had packed it.

Luckily, the TVR alarm and immobiliser expert lives very close to the garage, so he sorted it. His name is Carl Baker, www.tvruk.tv, tel: [phone]. Give him a ring, not sure how close you are to the south (Carl is in Strout, GU32 3PD, off the A3 before Portsmouth). He's a top bloke..

Apparently, the cables of the immobiliser system where installed so tightly behind the dashboard and were squashed, and after all these years of driving, time took its toll. Better check to see if indeed this is the problem with your car as well.

Thanks for the info, Portsmouth isn't the end of the world for me at all as I'm in Surrey anyway, I will see if it does it again over the weekend and give him a call next week.
